AD-80 analog delay is popular but was never reissued

Maxon made the originals and then Ibanez put their name on the AD-80, It was first issued in 1979: since then Maxon and Ibanez have released other iterations of the delay pedal but the original AD-80 with the Panasonic MN3005 was not reissued. It will have a fiftieth anniversary in 2029. i collect this particular pedal and they sell from about 200-500 but more often a better condition ad-80 gets closer to 300. They are warm and sound great for slap back and longer delay The only thing I can figure is that they came up with longer delays. I have not found not have anyone who has made a board for it. Seems like a missed opportunity?

True story I still have the original Ibanez Analog Delay that I purchased in 81 or 82. As I remember Flock of Segulls released "I ran (So Far Away)" in 1982 and I wanted to nail that delay. lol. Memories! The imags are just of one in my collection, not the first one I bought.

it's not an AD-80, but madbean once did an AD-900, so there's that i guess

while we're talking about maxon delays, if anyone was gonna do one for DIY, imo the AD-9 pro would be awesome.
- i'm not sure i've seen many DIY analog delays that simulate a 'multi-head' mode (i.e. more than 1 delay line)

(or at least adapt the design somehow, cos it doesn't look like those MC4107D chips are obtainable 🥵 )

although, not gonna lie, i don't think i've seen an 'SR' ref des before. - 'set-reset latch' apparently?

or 'CP'

yeah probably not gonna happen

Yes, possibly a more useful reissue. The original Ad 80 is sweet and warm, but it didn’t have long enough to delay.

It's down to marketing.

If it had been marketed as a sweet and warm SLAPBACK, it might've faired better than marketing it as a full delay.

I love slapback, if a board of the AD-80 were made available I would build it.

The AD80 is one of my favorites! I modded one with a charge pump and double delay board stashed in the battery compartment. I also changed the mix knob from 100% dry to 100% wet, to the DM2 style mix control that never goes full wet. Much easier to dial in that way. Too bad I stupidly sold it off.

I'd love to see a board for this.

. I am interested in your mods. I have quite a few of these.I could send a donor for someone to trace. I think it owuld be fun to build one. Even a banged up one is about $150-200. Since it was my first pedal as a kid I feel some sort of attachment to theseLately I have been running to MXR Carbon Copy pedals. One set for long and one for short.

Still don't havew it working though! I have a very old scope to try and ial it in but it's not working yet!

You might be interested in the Scott Swartz PT-80. The goal is to emulate the AD-80 using the pt2399. This is somewhat unique among the countless pt2399 circuits because it uses a compander (e.g. v571) just like the actual analog BBD delays use. I designed a PCB clone of this circuit and had it fabbed but haven't built it yet.

W\hat a vgreat idea. It would be hard to source the 3005s probably, Thanks for the link.
