I've made a few bass guitar amplifiers and decided to simplify the build with a preamp PCB that forms the front panel of an amp. It's shared at PCBWay here:

Cool! I have a great sounding old rack DIY bass preamp with plenty of leftover space inside...hmmm.

Originally I did use one of Rod Elliot's older designs, which worked quite well, but eventually I went with my own.

Since this is a generic preamp, it can be used for bigger amps, too... This is the first amp that made me want a PCB. I started with hand-made modules you can see on the right side of the guts pic that all moved to the PCB.

We are fellow travelers, for sure. Here's how I did my first bigger one:



The big commercial power supply board and toroid for the preamp are way overkill, but I didn't fancy the onboard one in that particular older ICEpower module. This amp is still my primary over a decade later though, so apparently I may have done a few things right!
