Oh absolutely. Though plenty of aluminum survives transit without coating. I always assumed it was wiper lube applied in the most efficient/lazy/messy way possible.I believe the sticky "mystery" coating is a protective layer against corrosion from salty sea air during trans-Pacific container shipping from China. You see an even thicker anti-corrosion coating (made of a different oilier composition) on large machine tools coming to the US from China as well as Taiwan.
i'm not worried about sizing. i've broken enough of the taiwan pots to never want to buy another one. problem solved. And again, I should reiterate - I had no doubts about the quality of these pots, but wanted to make sure there were no sizing issues between them and Alphas. The title is a bit misleading! I saw some warnings about mixing Alpha and Tayda pots, although I can't say I've noticed any issues when I've done it. Stompboxparts rules the school and all of their stuff is top quality!
