Is my hakko fx888 heating element ok?

I had similar issues! Even though I was able to demonstrate poor heating performance, I had a long and protracted warranty issue with one of these. Disappointed, 'cos I really like its functionality, but it just didn't work as advertised; finally sorted. I now have a weller 1010. Much better...

Kings Hand build - non-standard resistor values

Thanks All! I decided to post the question on the premise that these values were there for a reason: R2 - 28k7 R4 - 30k1 R5 - 133k R10 - 9k5 And as cdwillis posted, normal component tolerances would probably cover the values, but? Glen

Kings Hand build - non-standard resistor values

Evening All. I notice some non-standard resistor values in the Kings Hand OD BoM, for example: R4 @ 30k1, and would like to know best practice for achieving these values. Can I just wire a 30k and 1k resistor in series, and if so, whats the most practical, and neatest way to do this? Thanks...

SOLVED Tommy III - hums and squeals

Sorted! The intermittent nature of the hums always suggested a grounding problem, but everything tested OK with the multi meter. Anyway, after rewiring all the off-board connections with 22 AWG solid core wire, and replacing the OpAmp socket and one 2k2 resistor which was measuring albout 900...

SOLVED Tommy III - hums and squeals

Yes, tested in and out of enclosure. Intermittent in both! I thought there might be something shorting when it was in the enclosure, but I can't find anything conclusive using a multimeter, checing for continuity and voltage at all the places I know about. I'm currently totally rewiring the...

SOLVED Tommy III - hums and squeals

That one is on the 'check later' list. The hums / squeals are intermittent; the pedal some times works and I can't track down why! I've pretty much replaced all the wiring, checked all the PCB conponenant values, replaced a few of them, but the problem persists. It's been a loooong few days...

SOLVED Tommy III - hums and squeals

I actually de soldered all the pots and re did them; getting good with the solder sucker. re the clipping selector, I couldn't source a slide switch locally so am dicking around with the placement of an SPDT; might just solder it directly to the PCB. Thanks for your reply. Glen

SOLVED Tommy III - hums and squeals

Yes, I wondered about R5. I read here that in lieu of an a25K pot for VOL, a 10K log pot could be used, omitting R5, which is what I did. Glen

SOLVED Tommy III - hums and squeals

Morning All. Any assistance gratefully appreciated. The build works in by-pass mode, and the LED lights, but all I get is lots of hum and squeal, increasing with gain. My soldering skills are quite good and I have a general knowledge of parts etc, but can't read the schematic to any degree...

    tayda shipping

My (approx.) 5 orders from Tayda to Australia, south east have arrived in less than 1 week, door to door which is usually better than local postage over a similar difference. Glen

Drill templates - page properties ?

Thanks PJS. I'm with you up to and including your Point 4, and strongly agree, if this bit's not 'right' start again. However, while I do use a drill press, I don't think I have the dexterity, or good sight to manually punch the holes, but worth thinking about. Glen

Drill templates - page properties ?

Thanks for all the info, very reassuring to know I'm not on my own! So I decided I needed a simple and reproducable way to check a printed drill template against the physical PCB; this is what I did: Loaded the document into Infinithy Designer, paying particular attention to the document...

Drill templates - page properties ?

Thanks for your answer. I've made quite a few basic errors here, the first of which was to assume the print template properties would be metric, which most engineering documents use. Standard paper size in this part of the world is A4 @ 210mm x 297mm so that's how I printed the template using...

Drill templates - page properties ?

Could you please post the PDF page properties of your print templats, i.e. A4 / US Letter or similar. I'm building a Stockade drive and the printed template does not line up with the PCB; the print scale is set to 'Actual Size'. Thanks. Glen
