The process is tedious, requires a lot of attention, especially polarized components, but it's reasonably easy.

I design my own PCBs, so excuse my OCD
I like to use pin headers to support a daughterboard with the trimpots - and position them next to the lid for easy access.
Mini pedals don't require the use of a pin header - and it works very well with dip switches.

I make them with the same artwork as the originals, clients ask for it like that, so I don't think it's cool to share it here, but basically they are like the originals
