    Centaur (aka Kliche Mini)

Latest (and greatest in my winter build series is the awesome Klon Centaur. Yes, I went through the parts list and accepted no substitutions so every component is the exact right value. Ok, I did lack a 390nF cap due to an oversight and so found two caps that when in parallel = 390nF so all...

    Timmy (aka Tommy)

Aside from the switch, this is one of the easier builds once you master mounting pots and switch in the inverted case to line them all up before soldering them in. I have a photo of that stage of the build below, along with the finished pedal (with the Gain switch mislabeled as 'Clip'... I went...

    LED Behavior in Soft Clipping

Understood, but let's do the math. If the minimum gain of the noninverting opamp is 1+ R7/(R2||R4), then we have a minimum gain of 1+ 5600/848 ie 7.6. If the voltage across the feedback loop exceeds +/-1.7V then the input voltage with gain set to minimum must exceed +/-220mV. That's higher...

    LED Behavior in Soft Clipping

I built a Splendiferous (Royal Blue) OD and, with the back off, I noticed that the red LEDs in the feedback loop of the op amp are always clipping, in that they flash to some degree on every note, no matter how soft, no matter how low the gain. Obviously, the more gain, the harder I play, the...

Splendiferous (Aka Mad Professor Royal Blue Overdrive)

Question for the team: is it usual for soft clipping LEDs to glow even on the softest of strums with Gain set to minimum? I decided to play this with the back off in a dim room, and was surprised that the LEDs glow so easily. They get brighter with more Gain and harder playing, but it seems they...

Splendiferous (Aka Mad Professor Royal Blue Overdrive)

Give me a few more weeks, I have all the parts to build one of those too. I will be giving this a go through my Tweed Deluxe next as I think it might do a Blackface job on it. Update: The Tweed didn't like it much, I was hearing too much coming through in bass. However, on a Marshall style amp...

Splendiferous (Aka Mad Professor Royal Blue Overdrive)

Here is the second of my current series of (5) builds. I was attracted to this as its allegedly a Bjorn design and I have none of his. It also uses red LEDs for clipping, which I don't have anywhere else. I had no challenges with this build and even managed to use a few of my pile of gifted...

REQUEST Tommy III Drill Template or Measurements

I used that template and found that it has an error. The hole for the LED is specified at 8.2mm whereas it should be 6.2mm. So now I need to find a way to make a 5mm LED fit in a 8mm hole...

Tower Overdrive (Fulltone Custom Shop Robin Trower Overdrive)

Well, it seems that MichaelW has beaten me by a few weeks in producing this pedal. I've been a lifelong Robin Trower fan and have been looking forward to this one. I've built other tube screamer pedals in the past so I was worried that it wouldn't be anything different - but it is. For those...

Minidrive - Which version is it?

I see the Minidrive is out of stock - has it been out all this time? I hope it will be available soon.

    Tube Screamer Schematic Question

As no-one else has leapt in, all I can suggest is that it makes no difference as the capacitor C3 blocks DC, so it really doesn't matter what voltage level the 4k7 resistor is connected to - all that flows through it is AC (filtered off from the feedback loop).

    Chop Shop with MMBFJ201

I re-biased it (was 6.65v, now 6.1v), checked value of all components, and tried it again into a clean-ish amp. I can now hear that its is doing something 'interesting' to the harmonics - and its clear when its on and when its off. My settings are Drive 90% and Sag 70%. I agree with your...

    Chop Shop with MMBFJ201

Looking back at this build I'm sorry to report it didn't live on my board very long. Effect is too subtle for me. At times I can't even tell if its on. I might open it up and look for a problem as its hard to tell its doing anything. Very surprised to see so many rate it so highly.
