    Need some laptop/desktop help

Well, I hate to say this, but I just turned 69 years old on March 20. Needless to say it’s been a while since I’ve been to a high school and I’m not exactly sure what they even teach anymore! When I was in high school we had to use slide rulers; calculators were too expensive and *nobody* had...

    Parts stores Los Angeles?

Yeah, L.A. Small Business is gone…. Unless you want to eat at a taco stand…

    Parts stores Los Angeles?

You may not know that the sales tax rate here is 10%, so in many cases you'd be better off buying off of eBay.

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder?

I remember about 20 years ago when a southern California city heard that dihydrogen monoxide was the most damaging chemical in the world. They banned it. Imagine their surprise when they found out they had just banned water? It is responsible for rust, erosion, etc. Political figures should...

    Anti Static Bracelet & Mat

I use them when assembling/repairing PC's. I mostly build tube amps. A pedal here and there. SoCal winters when the Santa Anna winds blow can really make tons of static.

Hum from amp, buzz from guitar

I have one in my backyard. We used to be able to use wireless units out there for practice, then they upgraded the poles, transformers and wires from 500v-ish to 5000v-ish. They warned us no to let trees get within five feet or they would become lethal if you touched them. And the next time...

Hum from amp, buzz from guitar

My hum was the outside fuse box on the other side of the wall. If you rotate your body 360 and hear a quiet spot, then you're guitar is acting as an antenna. I bought an RF dectector on eBay and that's how I found the really noisy spot was the fuse box. Moved everything to the other side of...

First amp build, codename “Heavyweight Champ”. In progress.

Finishing walnut and pine are very different. Pine needs to be sealed before finishing or it will be blotchy! I used Varathane seal first, then their 'gunstock' color stain on this. Then rattle can Minwax satin poly. I used the oil based product for all three of these. Then knocked down...

Explain like I'm 5, what is going on in this pedal to make is sound like this, please?

I've been playing for 58 years, but the arthritis is getting worse and worse. You'll soon be better than I am! I recently strained my left ring finger in a five fret stretch. Normally I wouldn't have, but I was quickly switching back and forth from chords to lead and *missed*...
