I’ve built a marble drive and bought one that was made from another guy. Both sound similar to each other but truly nothing like the real one I bought today. ( verified real j201’s) Something is missing?!!

Great! I was gonna scale voltage down from my real plexi and see if that’s a good tone 😉 Thanks for the suggestion. I wasn’t sure 4.5v was good for fets as well as fuzz face transistors

Anyone built a Marble Drive? What are you setting the trimpots at? Is this to taste? High on the first stage then lower throughout?

I love how heavy fuzz gets that initial attack through. Like using a gate with a slow attack to let the initial burst through. I’ve been trying to find just the right heavy fuzz that doesn’t get muddy.

Just curios what Hfe for Q1,Q2,Q3 ? They look to cascade gain so is it good to start low and get higher down the chain? Or?

Uh ya it was 🙄 Q2= .162v Q3= .933v

Q2= 1.5v Q3= 5.1v

Q2 Vce= 1.399 dcv

tacking the 10k across did it! it still has a gated sound no matter the voltage setting. could this be too hot Hfe on Q1,Q2? Or is this the characteristic of this fuzz?

Well the pot in circuit is measuring closer to 8k! Pretty far outta spec I'd say

Q3 emitter = .92v It sounds like it going into cut-off. ( gated) I will have to try looking at the fuzz pot
