Thanks to everyone who helped out here. One of my wires was faulty. I took the whole thing apart and reassembled, taking my time to check at every stage I could. It's finally working!

I checked continuity on the pins... 7-8 has no continuity unless the pedal is engaged.

I thought they were supposed to be connected. (I followed this diagram)
