Two Aion Emerald Phasers (Boss PH-1R)

My client (my one and only client!) requested a phaser. He wasn't sure between a Boss PH-1R or EHX Small Stone. But, as always, the community here was extremely helpful.

We ended up going with the Boss PH-1R clone via the AionFX Emerald Resonant Phaser project. It's a fairly densely-packed PCB with a lot of components, but nothing wacky or exotic. The only potentially hard part is matching four JFETs, but I took the easy approach and ordered pre-matched JFETs from Aion. But all in all, a pretty unremarkable build.

I previously didn't have a phaser, so I took the opportunity to build two, one for me, and one for the client. Mine is the silver one - I used the cheaper unfinished enclosure for myself so I could test out the new Sunnyscopa waterslide GW1-Pro glue. The artwork was my client's suggestion, and I shamelessly used the same for my own phaser.

I use momentary soft-touch based bypass schemes for all my builds, and this is what my client prefers as well. So here I'm using the CMOS hex inverter based relay bypass (it's the smaller PCB at the bottom of the enclosure).

Both worked without issue on first power-on. I really wasn't getting much of the phase effect, but that was quickly remedied with an adjustment of the bias. I just biased by ear, and they both sound great to me. As this is the first time I've played a phaser in over 25 years, I can't really comment much on it's sound or anything, other than it sounds like a phaser!

Yours looks better. The graphics pop more than the black-on-green and the knobs work better visually too.

Shhh, sometimes I point my client to this forum for reference! ;)

Those knobs (Boss-style) on the green were specifically requested by him. In fact, he wants an oversized Rate knob so he can easily control it with his foot. I forgot to order the larger knob initially, so that's the last part I'm waiting on.

The knobs on my build probably look nicer because they are aluminum 1510-style. I've become somewhat of a knob snob lately - I got some of those aluminum knobs not too long ago, and now everything I build (for myself) must have them. If I decide to sell a pedal, I take the nice (and more expensive) aluminum knobs off and replace with cheaper plastic ones. :ROFLMAO:

I might agree with you in this case on the silver vs green. Normally though I do prefer that particular green enclosure though - that's "tango green" from StompBoxParts, and it's probably my favorite enclosure color. See for example my Mercurial Boost or Andromeda Deluxe (even though the waterslide didn't transfer properly, I still think it looks good). In general, I'm really liking all the colors @StompBoxParts offers in their 125B Pro enclosures.

The irony is, I bought several of the cheaper unfinished enclosures to practice the waterslide procedure for Sunnyscopa's new glue. That it turned out so nice is actually a happy accident. I think it also worked really well for my recent Cepheus build.
