Luxury 763 and Sproing Reverb Combo

In ye olden times I owned a J Rockett Boing, which is meant to be simulating a Fender spring reverb. When I got into this I picked up a Sproing to compare it. Along the way I also purchased a Luxury 763 (Lovepedal Blackface) to compare it to my Fender Deluxe Reverb. Then I thought - why not combine them?

Combo pedals are weird. You can do two in a 1590bb but they take up the same amount of room as two 1590b's side by side (with top jacks). Originally I planned the pedal with two footswitches so the reverb could be turned on and off separately. But in the spirit of a fun pedal that has the reverb just as "something extra" I went with only one main footswitch. Which was good because it's what fit inside the enclosure.

Here's where we start. It was a bitch getting the sproing board to fit like this - maintaining the cutout for the audio jack while getting the pot to reach where it did. I wanted the control for the reverb board to be on the far side, but I just couldn't make it work without off boarding the pot. And I didn't want to do that as it's the only thing that secures the board to the enclosure. I had to bend and flatten the legs and it just barely fit.

Then 3 of the pots for the 763 board had to be off wired. But that's no big deal. Here we are working them in. First the top row of wires for the power etc. Then the bottom two pots can be fished into place. Fushed? What's the past tense of fish?

It's finally starting to look like something. This took forever to work out. But it's done

I wired up the footswitch, which was smooth sailing. Just trimming them and then fishing them into place with needlenose. Then I hot glued the LED into place

And here we are. These are technically the wrong knobs, but the right ones wouldn't fit the way I wanted - one row across the top. They're too big. There are smaller versions but at that point who cares. These are Fender style knobs, but from a later amp.

I'm just now realizing I could have labeled the gain control "Neg Fdbk" and it would have fit right in. Oh well

I've had some time to play this and it is fantastic. The way I have it dialed, with everything at about 10 o'clock, it's perfect as a light overdrive with just a bit more oomph. Think AC/DC but they're playing a country gig. The saturation is tight and individual notes are well defined - you can easily make out major and minor chords. It's nice and bright without being shrill, while having just enough bottom end. It does what I tried to get my KoT to do.

Right now I have it on my board with a Skylight OD, Twill Deluxe, and a Photon Vibe. Both the Skylight and the Twill do a good job of boosting into the 763 without becoming too flubby. It's a perfect clean/breaking up rhythm guitar sound and takes boosts great as well. The way it's EQ'd is probably my favorite part. Sounds great with my Strat, really pleased with how this came out.
