Great Falls are an absolutely killer band and a wrecking ball onstage. I first saw them in 2011 opening for Rorschach. Until recently, they didn't tour out of state much at all, so we in Seattle had far and away the most chances to see them play at a regular clip.
What happened recently? Well, Scott Evans of Antisleep Audio/Kowloon Walled City recorded and mixed their latest, fourth full length a few years back, passed it Steve Von Till's way and bam, Neurot released it. The boys are finally afforded widespread (well, for abrasive and niche music) exposure and acclaim they've long deserved. Multiple US and European tours, the latter with longtime pals Botch, followed, as did a Roadburn appearance. Come September they do an East Coast jaunt with Dazzling fucking Killmen before they all play Dark Days Bright Nights in Virginia.
Through my frequent show attendance, a slew of mutual friends and my generally being a punisher I've been buds with Demian and Shane for a while. A few months back, Demian posted about his Lifepedal and although he loved it, the most useful purpose for his board was the boost section, and could EQD release just that. In the same interval where I offered my services (with all the caveats included) to build him something like it, he'd already heard from Stephen O'Malley (they go way back, OG Seattle HC/heavy music dudes) that the boost was in fact the White Light circuit.
OK. I order the parts, get it all working, get slight assistance from Demian on the layout and manage a glisteningly clearcoated enclosure themed after a song and graphic from their album. Only then did I research and realize that the Lifepedal boost is actually a Super Hard-On. While I assured him I could also do an SHO build--I even have the Moonn Hard Boost PCB on hand--Demian was stoked regardless and put the Trap Feeder to use in practice immediately after picking it up from me.
As usual, my methods were just laser printer + maco transparency paper + oil paint pens and clearcoat. I thought the Krylon gloss lacquer I used on my Time Waster/Echo Bender build was the new reigning clearcoat champ, but it's already crackled in the short time since. Back to Rustoleum clear gloss enamel.
This is my first time building something for someone who gigs and tours at the rate Great Falls now does, and I'm stoked.
