OD is Glorious
Well-known member
My 21st build.
Thank you to @Hetari Gotoh for giving me ideas and a template. I socketed a few components and that seems to work very well. Hetari Gotoh also spoke of a whine and the need for isolated power with the daughterboard. I think that is correct and you can see an example in the video. I did not use Hetari's idea of using an A1M potentiometerin place of the 500. The pedal is very responsive the way it is designed. So what is different in this build? I had no problems whatsoever in this build. When I completed the motherboard I put it ion the PedalPCB AP and it was amazing. In light of that sound I decided to get the daughterboard installed and substitute two of the transistors that I did not have. For the motherboard I did not have a TL082 so I used a TL072 until I order the correct IC. For the bypass daughterboard I used J201s in place of the 2N5457s because I had to order them. I learned from Hetari's build report to pay attention to components on the daughterboard - I put the electrolytic caps under the board as Hetari did in their build report and I needed to bend the legs for the transistors.
How many ways do I love this pedal? Let me count the ways: klon like transparency, Plexi like tone, Timmy like tone control, TS-808 like mids, OCD Ge like crunch and gain. The Guardians of the Analog is going to hate that I used these non-proletariat diodes... but the plans called for Ge diodes and I had some super duper !N34 diodes. Normally I am not digging the Ge diodes but I am sold on this circuit. As I have previously said in this forum I loved to be able to get out of the treble and hump. There is a place for that and this pedal can go there too if you want.
For the Improved Bypass Module of course I needed to order the two 2N5457. In the mean time I read the forum and opted to install J201s. So take that and the different IC into account when reading this report. I went with the powder coated case, a thermal ink label, PedalPCB top jack plate, switchcraft jacks, and a 1kg footswitch.
Do yourself a favor and build one. If you do not want the bypass board, no worries because the ADHD was glorious on the PedalPCB platform without it. I know what I like in overdrives and you can see I sort of collect them.
