I did this for a fellow on reverb. He wanted his Eddy pedal to have better knobs, so we did this. He also wanted to make the vibe/chorus toggle switch into a footswitch.
Here's where we start. Two of the pots didn't survive diassembly
Controls are on one board, while most of the other stuff is on the other. I'll be changing most of this around
The pots are all knurled, so they have to come out. Then I put one 9mm back in, but smooth shaft so it'll work with my knobs
Here's the back of that board. I oopsie'd one of the resistors but managed to find it and get it back on
Fully disassembled and all solder pads cleaned. If you don't use an entire roll of desoldering braid, is it really a project?
I set up a test enclosure using one from an old project I've redone. Everything fits pretty well with the jacks on top
A few days later the real enclosure was ready, so I'm building it out. Everything was off boarded because I didn't want to compromise the layout.
And finally we're done! That only took 6 hours
So what do we think about the Eddy pedal itself? It's ok. The Envelope feature doesn't really work unless you really dig in. I wish it was much more sensitive, like envelope features are on some other pedals, like the newer MXR tremolo. The vibrato mode would sound really nice with a sensitive envelope feature.
I think my Rotary Chorus remains my favorite. Still, it's nice that EHX made an analog chorus rather than digital in this day and age.
