    DC Jacks: 2-pin vs 3-pin

Ok, cool. This makes sense, but not what I expected based on this diagram image of the item I purchased (below). I thought it was negative, positive, ground based on the diagram (below). My guess is it just depends if the circuit calls for a negative or positive pin tip from the DC jack but I...

    Custom Range Potentiometers

Okay, interesting. So, I’ve got this circuit where I’m modifying it from internal trim pots to external pots. I’ve got it wired like this (see pic). It may be overkill that I’m wiring all three lugs. Maybe I could get by wiring only two lugs.

    DC Jacks: 2-pin vs 3-pin

👍 The way I’ve been remembering it is the capital letter “A” has longer legs than the capital letter “K”.

    Custom Range Potentiometers

Okay, so, in these figures below we have a “clean 50K” trim pot and a “bias 5K” trim pot. Help me clarify or understand something please… is the “clean 50K” pot an example of a variable resistor instance where lug 3 is unused? Also, is the “bias 5K” pot an example of a variable resistor where...

    Custom Range Potentiometers

Voltage divider vs variable resistor? I’m not sure. This is a good question as it will prompt some research on my end. I’m not even sure if I understand the difference yet. I was under the assumption that a typical level, tone, or gain knob on a pedal circuit are 3-pin pots acting as variable...

    Custom Range Potentiometers

I’m new to this and wondering if there is a such thing as a custom-range potentiometer. For example, if I bought a B100k and wanted to configure it so that at the bottom of the range it started at 12k resistance and at the top of the range it landed on 88k resistance. My uneducated guess would...

    DC Jacks: 2-pin vs 3-pin

I’ve been using 2-pin DC jacks. They work great and the pedals I’m building do not have a 9v battery. I’ve recently ordered some 3-prong. So, instead of simply positive and negative, it has positive, negative, and ground. My question is… Since it doesn’t have a battery, how should I wire them...

Film Capacitors - Box or Mylar?

How do I know when to use a box film capacitor vs a Mylar film capacitor? Pros and cons,… differences?

    DC Jack 2.1mm vs 2.5mm

I’ve seen 5.5 x 2.1 DC Jacks for sale. I’ve also seen 5.5 x 2.5mm DC Jacks for sale. I read that the 2.1mm is a “snug” fit whereas the 2.5mm is an “easy” fit. What is best? What is considered more professional?

    TL072CP Op Amp Differences

They showed up fast. I’ll likely be buying from Mouser when possible.

    TL072CP Op Amp Differences

Ah ok. I didn’t know what that was.

    TL072CP Op Amp Differences

I ordered some op amps from Mouser and they showed up labeled 29A8HSM. Hopefully these are good. (They seem good compared to the cheap Amazon ones I ordered last time.)

How do SHARC DSP chips work?

I read somewhere that the Strymon BigSky uses the SHARC DSP chip. I’m wondering if that is a chip that comes preloaded with effects on it by default that we could tap into … or if it is more like a blank programmable chip that can receive and save transferred proprietary code onto it that can...

What's your favorite tremolo pedal circuit?

I haven’t built one (yet). But,… my favorite tremolo so far is the Pulsar by Electro-Harmonics probably. It does an alternating left to right stereo thing that I love. Hard tie though with the Honeycomb by JHS. That one is like a two in one as it allows you to toggle between two speeds without...

Kliche Mini B10k Volume Not Muting

Just a follow up. I rewired the footswitch, replaced the blown capacitor, swapped the op amps for actual TL072CPs, and replaced the B10K potentiometer that wasn’t “muting”. I realize it was a bit overkill to do all that but something in there did the trick. The pedal sounds so much better now...

Kliche Mini B10k Volume Not Muting

I’ve started the rewiring of the footswitch. Not quite done yet. Upon further inspection I noticed a blown out capacitor. (1uF)

    TL072CP Op Amp Differences

There are a lot of knock off parts out there. Ran into something similar with Germanium Diodes. (Still learning)

    TL072CP Op Amp Differences

$8.50 for a 20 pack was a better price, so I went with those. Strange thing is they are listed as Bridgold and showed up as Texas Instruments. I’m new to this stuff so that was confusing. I was wondering if I should have stretched for the more expensive parts.
