There are some pedals worth recapping. Some manufacturers used 18v rated caps for filtering on 18v pedals(cough, Peavey), while overbuilding every other aspect of the pedal. Ensuring service center business, I suppose?

You can derate the lifespan if you want. Biggest factor is operating temp. I try to buy 105C Al caps when able/cost effective. Always if being used in a power supply or enclosed with a power supply(like rack gear). The newer style solid Al caps have longer lifespans as well.
