    Re: Arkaim Fuzz Transistors

It'll work without trouble. BC338 without a suffix is just a non-hfe-selected version. If that's what was in originals (which seems to be the case), they may have been anywhere in the 100-630 hfe range so any of those should work just fine.

    Indicator Light for Eyelet Fuzzrite?

Nice, glad you got it going. That's correct - the original was wired "backwards" from what you'd normally do. When the pots are mounted on the top/back rather than the face of the enclosure, the intuitive way to turn the control "up" is turning the knob to the right, which is actually a...

    Indicator Light for Eyelet Fuzzrite?

Hi ChunkyKarma, the Fuzzrite board mounts to the case via the DPDT so using something else is tricky. The footswitch wiring on the Fuzzrite is particularly odd as well. I THINK that you should be able to do it with a minor tweak, but you should probably test this before soldering anything...

Trying to figure out input impedance, and how it affects coupling cap value choice

I'm repeating some of what has already been stated here, but to be able to connect them in whatever order you'd like, pedals should ideally be designed with high input impedance, and modern ones pretty much always are. Having a low input impedance loads the previous stage more. Low output...

    A3 stompbox enclosures

Agree that they're most likely custom. They're made of folded sheet metal. I think sites like Ponoko will do custom designs in very small quantities (1?) but it's probably very expensive there. Some people buy a bending brake and attempt it at home with aluminum sheets, although depending on...

    Germanium transistor 2GT182???

NKT222 was used in certain Tonebender Mk3 builds, so that's cool. There does seem to be a lack of online info about this type. In addition to the equivalents listed above, other 2GT types (2GT102) are listed as a European type here (pg 134): https://archive.org/details/transistor-equivalents...

    Sunflower Fuzz Battery Mod

What is it soldered to that's holding it in there? Just the power jack? I'd remove the pot hardware so the pots can just come right out and probably leave the wires connected to the board and see if there's enough slack in the wiring to flip the board over without de-soldering anything else. You...

    Zonk II, anyone?…

No problem! Also FYI - 2N4061s (used in originals) had a datasheet hfe range from 90-450 hfe from what I can tell, whereas the BC109C starts at 450 hfe minimum (450-900). The 2N3906s (2N3904 if NPN) have a lot more crossover with 2N4061s (100-300). I'd think you should be able to get those...

    Zonk II, anyone?…

Note that although the circuit looks like a FF at first glance, the fact that it's lacking the global feedback (through the 100K resistor in the FF) is noteworthy. Q1 is biased with local collector feedback instead. Also, there is typically a pulldown resistor (470k) at the input although...

Thanks for the input! We will definitely consider an FY2 board. The Buzzaround always used the same style of terminal board, didn't it? We have a style that I believe is a pretty good match for that: P-HTBU-2X18 Unfortunately, this one is larger at 2x18 lugs. It's not ideal, but I've cut this...

Absolutely. Actually, just today we added a couple of items which may be of interest: Tonebender MkII board This is vintage-spacing stripboard pre-cut to Tonebender MkII size with the copper cuts and mounting holes already made. There's an example layout in the photos as well as a diagram for...

That's great to hear! We sold out of that initial batch insanely quick but we should have a larger order arriving either tomorrow or Thursday, along with a version that has black solder mask and a gold surface finish which I personally think looks excellent. Here's another side by side pic of...

Old thread, but since I came across this on google and Cricklewood is still selling these, I wanted to let everyone know that there's some concern that these are fake. The printing/general look on these is a lot closer than most fakes you see. The biggest indicators that have been pointed out...

    Places to buy knobs

Great question. Let me see what I can do! Shoot me an email if you (or anyone else!) want updates but this is a great suggestion. If we can make it happen we will.

    Places to buy knobs

Hey all, This is Dan over at Amplified Parts - I head up our R&D team. We have been adding a TON of new knobs the last year or two - we have added a ton of Marconi, Fairchild, Raytheon-style, and other knobs just this month. If there is something in particular you need and that we don't carry...
