I just think it looks a bit nicer, to be honest. 220kΩ in parallell with 1MΩ is 177kΩ. I think the value you tune in to stop the oscillation is always quite a bit below that though, but with "my" way you don't get that gap between 220kΩ and 177kΩ.

When you get around to it, I'd love to hear back from you about how they perform noise wise. I'm on the lookout for low hFE (40-50) Ge PNP transistors, my GT313A's are a bit too noisy though.

Just put together the board (MMBFJ309, and 2MΩ pot). I like it better when I tuned the bias down to 3.5V, you get a wooly fuzz tone of sorts on top of the drive.
