Box of 100 1T313V Ge Transistors Tested

Not yet unfortunately. I'm moving house soon, but I'm keen to try some in some fuzz and maybe cascading overdrive designs.

    True peak limiting PCBs?

I would recommend Douglas Self's small signal audio. It has a chapter on gain control. Of interest to you might be this circuit. The voltgages and values could be tweaked for your signal level.

    Marshall pedals: JCM800 vs 1959

I have nothing against simple circuits per se. The electra is an absolute banger. There's a difference to me when a boutique seller with a lot of overheads is selling a YATS, vs a big corporation with scale production in China doing it. That's my point.

Power Supply Questions - Reverse Voltage Over Voltage

How would you implement over voltage?

Power Supply Questions - Reverse Voltage Over Voltage

I'm open to a DC-DC converter, I guess my question is though, in audio situations, how much better is a regulated vs un-regulated one? The regulated versions seem to add about $10 to the price.

“How did they make that sound” thread

Believe it or not a lot of records around that time were still recorded on tape, and the flanging effect was often achieved by varying the tape speed. See also Sum41's Fat Lip, Tom Lord Algae has explained how he did a similar effect on that record...

Power Supply Questions - Reverse Voltage Over Voltage

What do you think about this? Seems to tick all the boxes?

Power Supply Questions - Reverse Voltage Over Voltage

@Chuck D. Bones I think I read you used to design power supplies?

Power Supply Questions - Reverse Voltage Over Voltage

The other thing I have questions about is power filtering. Beyond the usual big/little combo for caps, are inductors and ferrite beads worth introducing into the filtering?

Power Supply Questions - Reverse Voltage Over Voltage

Hey folks. Given I design for myself and don't really have to worry about scale, I want to design things the "right way. I'm designing pedal and studio gear. I think for some stuff I will use a linear power supply that will provide +12/0/-12 using a 5 pin din connector, so not worried about the...

    Marshall pedals: JCM800 vs 1959

    I think it's more a frustration about being sold a "JCM800" that's a YATS for a high price.

    EOL parts thread

Yup I saw that. Just hoping other manufacturers don't follow. Also not sure if other manufacturers will keep the cute blue colour.

    EOL parts thread

Noooo, the BAT41 is so good in guitar circuits. EOL doesn't mean no new shipments though right? At least not straight away?

    Transfer function of Diodes

Further to my wondering whether we are analysing diodes a little deceptively, I thought I would test the transfer function, as that's what we're actually interested in at the end of the day? You can see some interesting data in this interactive plot...

    GPT-5 Circuit Analysis

Absolutely, that's why I started with asking it a question I already knew the answer to. A sort of safety question to inform your confidence level in the rest of the answer. I also think what your post shows is not all LLMs have the same "quality" of output. Gemini, is a lot worse than GPT, I...

    3AX31C Germanium gain

For what it's worth, this is my updated data on the Chinesiums Decided not to get more AX's as I'm happy with my Ruskies in the PNP realm. the BXs test well though, have yet to listen to one in a circuit though.

    GPT-5 Circuit Analysis

I don't think it's black and white really? I reject the idea it was barebones effort. I came across this circuit because I've been reading Douglas Self's Small Signal Audio. While the circuit is briefly discussed, the critical components that select the frequency range were not explained. I have...

    GPT-5 Circuit Analysis

Hey folks, thought I would give GPT-5 a go at some (?simple) circuit analysis. I'm not a circuit wizz myself so not sure how well it did but here is the analysis. You said: how is the frequency range determined in this circuit You said: yes please You said: I would like to create two...

Boutique Pedal Manufacturers Are Feeling the Tariff Pinch

I know it probably won't help those of you in the US, but being in New Zealand, I shouldn't theoretically be affected by tariffs. However, Mouser orders to NZ are fulfilled by the US warehouse. Fearing I'd be effected by tariffs indirectly I decided to give LCSC a try. Will let people know how...
