Nobelium - tube bass preamp project

FWIW the build quality on my Noble preamp is really great, and Jack was super nice via email. I did wait a long time for it, but honestly I think it was worth it. Still looking forward to building my own 😃

    Pre-wired LED

Yep, exactly. You can also buy 0 ohm “resistors” if you don’t like the way a jumper wire looks 🙂:https://www.taydaelectronics.com/10-x-resistor-0-ohm-1-4w-5-carbon-film-pkg-of-10.html Or you can just use a reasonably small resistor value.

What made you a good guitar player?

+1 to everything above. A couple of other suggestions that are currently helping me as I try to improve: - record yourself playing and listen back to it. It’s almost impossible to judge how you sound while you’re doing it. - no matter what level you are, play with other people

Do you mind explaining how? Via Q2 clipping?

This Week on the Breadboard: The Celestial Boost

That mode selection is brilliant! I might try swapping D1 and D3 so that the “Fuzz” mode’s clipping is asymmetrical like the Golden Fleece.

Closed Circuit Booster / Limiter compared to MBP Afterlife

The Afterlife and CCBL compression sections are both based around the NSL-32 optocoupler. When comparing the two, I noticed that they are pretty similar, with one glaring exception. Could someone help me understand what’s going on in these circled sections?

Ok what is you favorite and least favorite part of building pedals?

My favorite part is probably gifting pedals to friends. It’s probably just narcissism, but I like being “the person who knows how to make guitar effects.” Close second is getting to try out tons of circuits that I would never buy off the shelf. I also agree with the folks who find populating...

    DEMO Promethium Distortion

I typically don’t build pedals with the intent of selling them, but occasionally I get a request that I just can’t turn down, like this one from a friend’s 10yr old: I sent him some YouTube clips of a few options, and he decided on an HM-2. He wanted the Santa Cruz Skateboards screaming hand...

Need A Bass Compressor and Envelope Filter

+1. The Creamery is the one that stayed on my bass board, but these all worked well for me.

    JHS Kilt v2 clone

That’s awesome! Truly. It takes me about 4 hours to do a pedal, and when I sell one my margins are around $20-$30.

    JHS Kilt v2 clone

You’ve clearly been churning them out lately, so I almost hate to ask. But I’m also dying of curiosity. Did you ever find out what’s up with these? Bog standard Expandora with a boost in the front?
