Son Of Ben Q2 Biasing Issue

Thanks so much guys. I am new to soldering and to electronics in general. I messed up the first pad trying to desolder the original j201 and then messed up the other two trying to get the new j201 out. How would I go about making a jumper? Sorry if this is a stupid question. This is all new to me.

Son Of Ben Q2 Biasing Issue

So, I solved the mystery. I messed up my board desoldering the through-hole J201 in order to instal the surface mount ones. Thanks for your help. I guess I need to order a new board and start desoldering all my parts.

Son Of Ben Q2 Biasing Issue

I built the Son of Ben and used what are probably not genuine J201's. I got the biasing close but not quite on Q1, however, Q2 and Q3 were in the low 3v range. The pedal sounded good, but I was hoping I could make it better, so I ordered the surface mount J201's. I installed them today and got...

Son of Ben (Benson) low voltage on Q2 and Q3

Okay, thanks for that. I was concerned that something else was wrong, this puts me at ease.

Son of Ben (Benson) low voltage on Q2 and Q3

I will re-bias Q1. Thanks for the advice. In the trimpot adjustment thread, Chuck mentions that "At one end of the trimpot travel, you should get close to 9V. At the other end, you should get substantially less, maybe something close to zero. If that isn't happening, there is something wrong...

Son of Ben (Benson) low voltage on Q2 and Q3

i got my J201’s from Banzai. They are through hole, but they are working in the pedal just with low voltages, though Q3 is set to 4v. I thought I had read on the “how to bias” thread that they should be near 9v when the trim pot is maxed out. I will check to make sure I am still at 2k on Q1.

Son of Ben (Benson) low voltage on Q2 and Q3

Yes, the problem is I can’t get Q2 up to 4v and Q3, even though it was more than 4v still seemed weaker than it should be when maxed out.

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

The original pic had the old 2n6027 soldered in. When I removed it I socked the joint in case the next one was fake too (which it was). This third one, I think, is real. I will indeed reflow the joints as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for your help!

Son of Ben (Benson) low voltage on Q2 and Q3

I didn't figure the thread on how to bias the Son of Ben trim pots was the place for this question, so I thought I would start a new thread. I have finished the Benson, but when it came to Q2 and Q3 I have some odd voltage readings. Neither Q2 nor Q3 when all the way up reaches anywhere near 9v...

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

Will resolder the 2n6027 joints. I have it socketed at the moment and will now try actually soldering it in and see if that makes a difference.

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

The voltage changes as I move the pot but it is not varying. I re-tested the anode of the 2n6027 and cannot get a consistent reading. Sometimes it wobbles around 2.1 - 2.2v other times there is hardly anything like 17mv and still other times it seems to descend in volts the longer I hold the...

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

This is all really helpful information. Thanks! I am getting no tremolo effect at all though the anode does seem to be oscillating as you mentioned. I tested the depth pot and it worked exactly as you said it should.

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

Here is a photo of my 2n6027. I took the measurements of my pedal at 100% and here is what they came to... (component side and left to right) 2n6027 1.4 3.8 .17 2n5089 0 .5 0 Rate 7.5 7.5 7.5 Depth 0 0 0 I am a total electronics beginner to the point of quickly becoming confused at what I...

It does say CEN. That would be super helpful if you could take those readings. Thanks so much for doing that! When I get home I will take a photo of the 2n6027.

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

Thanks for the suggestions and for sharing that thread. I will be taking out the expression pedal and trying to get it working without it. I am still really baffled as to why I am having this problem as the 2N6027 PUT seems to be a working part as best as I can tell.

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

I have received the newest 2N6027 from Banzai. As best as I can tell it works as a PUT should, but the pedal is still not working correctly. When the depth pot is all the way down the pedal works as a boost and when all the way up the pedal is off. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

I feel I should give a shout out to Banzai. I contacted their customer service about the issue with my 2N6027 and they immediately apologised and sent out a new one. Upon receiving the replacement 2N6027 it was also found to be a fake. I contacted them and had an immediate response and...

I have not unwired the expression input, but I am certain I have that correct. It works the same outside of the enclosure. Thanks for the tip on Smallbear.

    Problems with Woodpecker Tremolo build.

Got my free replacement 2N6027 from Banzai and still the same problem. I am wondering, is there an alternative to the 2N6027 I could source?
