    Desolders

I treated myself to purchasing one of these desoldering pumps on Amazon. Has anyone else tried these? I think it’s terrible. Wondering if I’m missing something. The tips aren’t pointed enough to get into small areas so it is hard to aim and not burn stuff. It also takes too long to melt the...

    Soldering question

I’ve noticed that sometimes the solder pools on both sides of the PCB and sometimes it does not. Is it ok if the solder pools on the side you are working with but does not flow all the way through to pool around the pad on the other side? See attachment for example.

    Buying Diodes on Ebay

I haven’t purchased mine yet. When I do I’ll let you know if there are any import fees. I’m going to start collecting diodes soon but it may be a few weeks. I appreciate all the replies. It is very helpful in knowing how to approach purchasing on eBay.

    Breadboarding Seabed Delay

I actually appreciate the advice very much. I had to research the pinout even before this reply because I don’t have a tool that tells me the pinout. I still had some trouble as some datasheets made it look reversed even for the same part number. I went directly to my order details from Tayda to...

    Breadboarding Seabed Delay

I didn’t know that. I tested it and sure enough, no beep if passing through just those resistors. For some reason I thought since resistors limit the energy passing through I’d still get a beep (since it doesn’t fully block the energy). Thank you.

    Muroidea question

Ok, thanks. I have the through hole component. Wasn’t sure if there was a second one needed or something that was surface mount. I see now, it is an option of either/or.

Am I supposed to add a component here?

    Breadboarding Seabed Delay

The issue is in the power section. I haven’t found it yet, and need to ask an ignorant question… wouldn’t it find its way to ground one of these two ways? (I’m still new at this and trying to understand why the continuity test from R18 to ground would fail.)

    Breadboarding Seabed Delay

With one pin connected to ground… I just did a beep test and both sides of that resistor do beep when the other pin touches it, yes. That is what is expected, correct? Also, I confirmed that the diode right before it only beeps on the one leg (negative), as it should.

    Breadboarding Seabed Delay

Sorry for the delayed reply. Had to work late. The electro is not backwards … I just verified it.

    Breadboarding Seabed Delay

Trying to breadboard a delay circuit for the first time. This 33R resistor keeps going up in smoke. I don’t expect anyone to deconstruct this whole breadboard, but am wondering common causes that I could double-check.

    Buying Diodes on Ebay

I may be in the market to buy some diodes soon. I’ve heard so much negativity about buying diodes on EBay. I just wonder if there is any way to tell if they are going to be fake or real before purchasing. I see posts like this (see attached screenshot) all the time and they look good in the...

    Reading Schematics Question

I assume that if there is no little black node on the intersecting lines, it means there is no connection, correct? So like, here, where the intersection happens, it is just that there wasn’t room to draw where it goes without crossing over a line, but those wouldn’t connect.

Question About Q1, Q2, etc Values on part list.

End result. Went with S9018s. I love it!

Question About Q1, Q2, etc Values on part list.

Yes, this is the Sardine Tin. I finally got around to building it but ran into this question. I think I’ve got all the other parts I’ll need, and I probably have the transistors as I’ve been collecting different ones. I’ll just have to measure some and find a good candidate. For the enclosure I...

Question About Q1, Q2, etc Values on part list.

I’m used to being spoon-fed the transistor part list, but here I have a value range and not sure what it means. I think it means “any transistor with an HFE in this range” but not sure. For example, see Q1 here. I think it wants any transistor (NPN) with an HFE ranging from 140-200. Am I correct?

    Universal Color Codes for Wiring?

I had seen a YouTube video where someone had yellow as output and blue as input, which is opposite of what I’ve been doing. I was thinking maybe I was doing that backwards or something but seems the consensus is that it is just fine after all (to use whatever color I want for in and out).

    Universal Color Codes for Wiring?

I wonder if keeping the two separate negates the need to make a clean power stage with a polarized cap. Like if current leaks into the main ground plate causing unwanted noises like pot scratching.

    Universal Color Codes for Wiring?

I’m wondering what the universal color codes are for wiring. Here is what I’ve been using, but wondering if that is confusing for anyone opening up my pedals later. Red: Positive Black: Negative or Ground Green: Ground Yellow: Input Blue: Output White: Jumpers
