    Best place to order resistors?

Looking on Tayda at diodes. It is a little overwhelming how many options there are. What are the most common ones for pedals?

    Best place to order resistors?

I’m about to stock up on resistors and wondering the best place to purchase. The reason I ask is they seem way cheaper on Amazon vs Tayda, but I’ve read that Amazon resistors aren’t great. I went to Mouser and that seemed both expensive and limited. Is there a better place I haven’t looked...

    Fake transistor?

I changed the cap and it did have a slight affect on the tone (in a good way), but didn’t quite bring the pedal to sounding like the other one. It is close though, and acceptable. I just would like to figure out how to get it closer. Maybe tomorrow I’ll measure hFE values and get some voltage...

    Fake transistor?

At the time I posted I hadn’t finished the circuit yet. But I’ve finished it now and it works but doesn’t sound as good as the other one I built with the exact same schematic. So, I assume it is the transistor or the cap. It doesn’t sound “bad”, just a little different. A little darker.

    Fake transistor?

When a transistor has a “cut out” look (like this), does it mean it is fake? What I mean is that the edge around the seam looks rough.

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

Okay, so what I’m gathering from this is that I could use non-polarized or polarized, but if I go with polarized, I’d just make sure that the curved line, which represents negative, would go to ground.

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

Does this mean I’d use an electrolytic but could ignore its orientation? I should know this but I don’t. Just making sure it is clear. I thought non polarized is like film, ceramics, MLCCs, and that those do not have a polarized cap.

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

When I see these, how do I know if they are polarized? I know the straight lines mean non-polarized, but the one that has a curved line and a straight line sometimes means polarized and sometimes not, right? (Where the straight line represents the positive side.) But I’m unsure because some...

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

That link is super cool. I’ll definitely be using it in the future.

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

Thank you. Plenty here to explore. By “simple” I meant a circuit that is roughly around the complexity of the Electra, or at least not exceeding the complexity of the Rat. I’ll look into these schematics and see what I can find. One thing I’ve noticed about the Rat is it has a power section...

    Schematics for pedals using 2N5457?

I recently purchased some 2N5457s and 2N5458s and am wondering if there are some simple pedal circuit schematics out there that use those transistors. I know the Rat uses it, and I may start there, but am wondering if there is a better or more simple place to start.

    What diode is this?

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’m learning so much on this forum, which is nice because I’m pretty new to this stuff.

    What diode is this?

I figured out that soldering two BAT41s together like this sounds pretty good. (See blue diodes in pic.) Is this considered a bad practice?

    What diode is this?

I have those two values. Thank you. I also happen to have a 1N4742A which is also pretty close I think.

    What diode is this?

The only other picture I have of it on the breadboard is this. I would have to desolder it from the PCB to take more photos. I know it isn’t a magic diode or anything like that. In fact, I got it from some free parts kit that came with a cheap soldering iron on Amazon. However, it sounds good...

    What diode is this?

Does anyone recognize this diode? (Trying to figure out what it is.)

Kliche Mini - Which Capacitors Affect Tone?

The Kliche Mini is a bit more mid-range in comparison. The other one sounds more even, and to my ears translates to a warmer, fatter, fuller sound. Something I am going to try is experimenting with the caps and diodes. I’ve purchased some single pin sockets and plan to swap parts and listen. I...

Kliche Mini - Which Capacitors Affect Tone?

In the Ghost Drive it looks like I used some MLCCs vs regular ceramics. Wonder if that would affect it very much.

Kliche Mini - Which Capacitors Affect Tone?

I added more detail to my question above. It just sounds a little bit like there is a spike in the upper mid range. Almost like Queen, which is a great tone, but I’m going for more of a warmer tone.

Kliche Mini - Which Capacitors Affect Tone?

Which capacitors in the Kliche Mini affect the tone? I know for sure C15 affects tone. Wondering if other caps impact it as well? (btw-The reason I’m asking is because I have the StewMac Ghost Drive with the same diodes and it sounds different. I’m trying to get their sound closer matching by...
