Your best method for removing thorugh-hole components from a PCB

These are the way to go... I find that anything soldered to the ground plane is the problem. Did you notice that one lead of your cap moved easier than the other? I had this problem yesterday with a power supply cap on a board I'm working on... The cap was fairly easy to take out (caps are easy...

    Vacuum Tubes

Speaking of EL84 types, this is a weird one but a great one: The 6DZ7... It's actually TWO 7189 tubes in one glass envelope, and they can take the 400+ volts of a lot of tube amps. These were widely available 20+ years ago and cheap (under $5 each) until a foreign buyer bought every last one of...

    Vacuum Tubes

Wow! What a great looking display! I'm also envious of the tubes you have. The 6P14P-EV is probably the most rugged EL84 type easily available. The "EV" in the code means "militarized" so it's a ruggedized version and is rated for longer lifetime. Not all 6P14P tubes are the same, the "EV"...

    Vacuum Tubes

Groove tubes used to be good, until Aspen Pitman sold the company off, I think Fender bought it. As for Chuck's russian 6V6 tubes... They suck!! End of story. The russians can handle around 330-350volts max, they don't last any time at all in old Fender amps because of the high plate voltages...

    Tube Guitar Amp Troubleshooting Method

oh, go to YouTube and look up "uncle Doug" in the search bar. He does a lot of videos on tube amp repair and he's probably the best guy for that on YouTube. Here's a link to one of his videos, you can find the rest of his videos from there. He also has videos on tube amp theory. Very good:

    Tube Guitar Amp Troubleshooting Method

Well, it's a step by step process. The AC30 is a tough one for the inexperienced as it's a rather involved amp. I'd suggest getting a book on tube amp repair and starting there. Just be aware that tube amps have very high voltages in them which can be life threatening. Let me look around so I...

    Tube Guitar Amp Troubleshooting Method

That's not typically a "troubleshooting" method per se... It just tells you if the amp is consuming too much current. If the bulb glows brightly, there is a problem with the amp because it's consuming more current than it's supposed to.

    Flux Cleaners

This thread is like deja vu... I must have seen a similar one somewhere else. I'd advise against using nail polish remover as a source of acetone, it has moisturizers and other stuff in it because it's used on humans. Instead, go to most any hardware store and the paint department will have pure...

    Source for MN3005?

That's actually a good price for the originals but yes, quite expensive. And no, the originals don't sound any better. Lol!

    Source for MN3005?

https://synthcube.com/cart/index.php?route=product/search&search=Mn3005&description=true This place has great prices on xVive MN3005 IC but unfortunately are out of stock also. They DO have original Panasonic MN3005 ICs in stock at a good price also. BTW, never hesitate when something is in...

Carbon film resistor for signal chain look ok?

Because it's"hipster cool". Lol! Mike at AM weaves a lot of snake oil into his pitch. I'm not doubting his knowledge and some of his pedals sound wonderful but some of the stuff he spouts off is questionable. Whether he actually believes it or it's a tactic he uses to throw people off, who...

    Fun with JFETs and servos

I was looking at the TL052 sheet and it says "minimum supply voltage: 10v". I guess a dual rail 9v would work or a charge pump to get 18v (15v regulated) also would work.

Wanted: gut shots of a Proco Rat

I don't have the best ears but I noted a definite difference, those with "golden ears" would probably note quite a bit of difference. What I liked about the LM308 over the newer op amp is that the 308 version sounds more "raw", less refined which to my ears is a good thing for a distortion...

Help me identify some Ge transistors suitable for Fuzz Face and Tone Benders

I'm not familiar with the TC-1 but yeah it looks more than adequate for the job. And you post was much more helpful than mine... Sometimes I can come off as a bit snarky, my apologies to the OP.

As a side note, im surprised how much difference in sound there is in a LM308 rat vs an OP07 rat
