    Gainster PCB?

I tried compressing it more by changing it to one diode each way in the first feedback loop and it made a noticeable change in headroom, but I think I prefer the stock arrangement as it gets a bit too close to a TS. (I see the new Barber clone made this switchable - will have to look at doing...

    Gainster PCB?

I have the Gainster up and running on the breadboard. Side by side with an AionFX Cerulean (Bluesbreaker with switchable clipping and extra gain) it sounds very similar except the Bluesbreaker has a little less bass, and there is a touch more middle in the Gainster. The Gainster clipping is also...

    50s wiring

With modern wiring (which I still have on my Yamaha SG) I find that I keep all the controls at 10. With 50s wiring (other guitars) I never have the controls at 10.

Something else: 50s vintage wiring vs modern and caps

I modelled the various wiring options in LTspice and here is what the results look like in the frequency domain: Modern Wiring with no Treble Bleed (just showing 1k - 10k range) - note how the peak frequency moves left as the vol control is rolled down (10 - 8 - 6) (tone is at 10). This is why...

    50s wiring

I think you have just started a thing for 2 volume controls per pickup.

Trying to figure out input impedance, and how it affects coupling cap value choice

Am I correct in thinking this would also apply to the Rangemaster circuit? I'm finding it hard to use one of these on my pedalboard as it doesn't sound right when sitting after the tuner (buffered) but when used standalone it's noisy.

    Red Herring (Menatone Red Snapper)

I can see why mojo sells, as I'm one of those who bought PIO caps for the tone controls of my Les Paul - only to realize many years later that no signal passes through those caps. So - lesson learned - I think as long as the coupling caps on any clones are top quality then they should sound as...

    Gainster PCB?

This looks correct. I have parts on order to build this and will post a report when done. All I've ever built before are AionFX kits so this might take me longer... However, looking at a model of the Snapper in LTspice I can see why Clark and Browntone thought the Cut wasn't necessary for their...

    Red Herring (Menatone Red Snapper)

I modelled this pedal in LTspice as I was researching the Hoochie Mama (aka Clark Gainster) and this circuit is really close. In fact I'm going to use the Herring PCB to build a Hoochie Mama clone. For a Hoochie Mama the cut control is eliminated and replaced by a 22k resistor, and there are a...

DEMO AionFX Polyphemus (Pigtronix Philosophers Tone) - Demo Added

I have this version of the Philosopher's Tone. The volume is at unity at noon. Full volume is a significant boost. Note this version has no tone knob. The Grit is the only aspect of this pedal I don't like; it's ok when kept low but doesn't do well past noon. To fix the kit I suggest we look...
