I never used tantalum caps because I always read about ti that are not so goo for audio, I used only electrolytic, even for value like 0.47uF-2.2uF, if the layout or the schematic indicates it. You can swap them, the pinout should be the same, but this doesn't mean these transistors are the same. 2N5457 has less gain than J201.

I afraid I confuse the pedal. The Arche Boost is based on ThorpyFX Heavy Water! :oops: Those diodes are sort of clipping, thought the orientation is unusual.

Those transistor stages are just simple buffers, no gain. So I'd say that the Hfe are not so critical in this case.

I'd say it's just for the protection from the inversion of the polarity power supply. I guess you could totally excluded it or use another diode: a common 1N4148 or a 1N4001 is used in other circuits. We can wait other opinions, but I'm pretty quite about the rule of this component.
