    Flyback Diodes and Relays

@Eugene_M - See here for an answer. (Thanks @jwin615 for the mention, otherwise I wouldn't have seen this.)

    Custom microcontroller-based relay bypass - update - v2.0 board

Addressing a question that came up in this thread: If you have a micro controller for which there is a prebuilt image, then you don't need to do any compiling, you just need to flash the image. The ATtiny13(a) is one of the micro controllers for which I have precompiled images. The project's...

    MattG's Relay Switching

(I would have replied sooner, but I've been traveling with only my phone and spotty internet service.) This is so cool, you are the first person to "discover" this via GitHub, rather than through these forums. And if you haven't seen this, here's a forum thread where I first discussed this...

    Voltage regulators

I believe the LP2950 also has a lower max current compared to the LM78 regs. In fact, they make LM78 regs in the really big package that are made to be bolted to a heatsink. I spec the LP2950 for the relay bypass PCBs I've made, both the microcontroller based design, as well as the CMOS hex...

    Voltage regulators

That's a good point, I totally forgot that you always pay the voltage drop, regardless of regulator. Where I was coming from with that was the no- or extremely-low load case where the regulator's quiescent current becomes significant. In this specific scenario, the fancier regulator does help...

Omitting a pot so its hardwired at 0?

Note that's only true for a linear taper ("B") pot. For logarithmic or audio taper ("A", "C", "W"), the noon/50% pot position is not 50% of the pot resistance.

DEMO My most asked question, it's not what you think!

As requested! Laying against one of the acoustic panels I just received, trying to damp the liveliness of the practice space.

DEMO My most asked question, it's not what you think!

Love the G&L love! My #1 is a US-made G&L ASAT Special. It was a custom job that popped up on Reverb for a killer deal: ebony fretboard, quartersawn neck, body contour cut, stainless steel frets. I added locking tuners and sent the body to Ilitch Electronics, who installed a passive...

    Voltage regulators

At slightly higher cost, consider the LP2950 regulator instead of the 78Lxx series. The actual dropout voltage is smaller, which makes it a bit more efficient/waste less power. AP7375 also looks good, but I think it's surface mount only.

Tom (Nook) - the Paul Cochrane Tim

Great-looking build and great writeup! I think your daughter's design does look more "artistic" or "professional", for lack of better words, but I do like the Forest Gump design too. This appears to be the v1 Tim... @Robert, has there been enough breathing time yet?

T W on the BB with Chuck and Gator: Hellbender/Pagebender Hybrid

I called Chuck's Hybrid Fuzz Driver Deluxe the "Fuzzy Mutt", but I like you guys' 70s classic rock- and fantasy-inspired names better. I just finished Jordan's entire Wheel of Time series, and am looking for more epic fantasy. I'd never heard of the Elric series before this, and it looks to...

    First pedal complete!

Welcome to the addiction, err, I mean club! My first builds (emphasis on the plural) definitely didn't look that good. One thing: maybe it's just the camera angle, but it looks like the resistors that go to the indicator LED are awful close to the switch wiring (the LED cathode ("K") in...

This week on the Breadboard: The Hybrid Fuzz Driver Deluxe

The bias trim TR1 10k trimpot - is there a target voltage for one of the nets? Or is it trim to taste?

This week on the Breadboard: The Hybrid Fuzz Driver Deluxe

I think this is how it looks with the midcut omitted. At least at a high-level, the topology now looks a lot like the Diamond Peak/"holy trinity" circuits, but with the added output buffer. Not saying it's the same of course. The OG trinity all have the same topology but not too much sonic...

This week on the Breadboard: The Hybrid Fuzz Driver Deluxe

I built all three of the "holy trinity" a few years ago... and I still have a Yankee Screwdriver Deluxe Turbo PCB in my "needs debugging" pile. But I've been rocking the Animals Diamond Peak circuit for over a year now, which is a record for me. So I'll definitely want to give this circuit a...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Celestial Boost

Technically, the schematic in post #73 above, but it's essentially the same as #1. Ahh, yes, I should have caught that! I suppose the parallel trick probably works best for linear taper pots, right? Anyway, thanks! Great circuit, and I have spare PCBs for anyone who wants one!

This Week on the Breadboard: The Celestial Boost

I built up a prototype based on the boost-only schematic posted above. Some questions... For the J113 Vp, per these instructions: In this scheme, the JFET source pin is left open (only connected to the DMM), right? Assuming I measured the the JFET correctly, the closest to the suggested...

Is the Zorkmid overdrive what think it is?

How does the Zefram fit those toggle switches at the top of the enclosure, without interfering with the input and power jacks? @Robert did you happen to take a picture of the guts? I'm guessing those must be super tiny switches and connected to the PCB via wires? Or maybe all the I/O (jacks...

Hard Rock Pinnacle Purebred Drive w/integrated buffered electrical bypass

This is yet another revision of my "Hard Rock Pinnacle Purebred Drive", which is a @Chuck D. Bones modification of the Animals Diamond Peak Overdrive. Here is the build report for the first PCB revision, here is the second. I actually did a one-off third revision, see here. The third revision...

    The Fingers Overdrive

I used it on a gig Saturday night, worked and sounded great! I used it for lower-gain/edge-of-breakup stuff, and also to push my Hard Rock Pinnacle.
