    Noisy Power Supply Question

I haven’t tried it yet, but will if I can’t get it fixed on the board. I’m trying to think of what the difference would be that a PedalPCB board might have in its treatment of power that neutralizes the issue. Part of me wants to say “oh well, use a different power supply”, but since I want to...

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder?

My neighbor who happens to be an electrician told me he used lead his whole career and it never gave him any problems. He’s retired now. So, the dangers can’t be that bad, although I’ve done no research on it. I may look it up and see what I find.

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder?

I’ve read that workability is a big factor. I have noticed that compared to leaded, the lead-free stuff flows much quicker, like water almost, once it gets going, but takes more heat to get it to convert to a liquid. That makes it difficult to keep from bulging on the side of gravity. It also...

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder?

I use a separate iron w a flat tip and run it hotter which seems to help. I use the thicker solder on hardware wiring and the tiny stuff (0.6mm) on the board. I’d change up what I’m doing if it would be best long-term. Wondering if the electrical connection is as good. I’d “think” the lead-free...

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder?

I was wondering if it is ok to sell pedals w lead. I think in Europe it is banned but not sure about small runs and boutique builds.

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder?

I may have to return my purchase for the lead stuff.

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder?

Do you prefer lead or lead-free solder? I’ve been using 60/40 for the PCB pads and lead-free for the hardware. (Two separate irons too so they don’t cross-contaminate.) I was at Home Depot getting more of the larger solder and noticed they also had 60/40 lead solder in that size. I wasn’t sure...

    Noisy Power Supply Question

New at this, but that would keep the voltage traveling in the right direction, correct?

    Noisy Power Supply Question

I built it on one of these. (See pic.) I wonder if these are known to be noisy. I used little jumper wires to connect columns together as needed.

    Noisy Power Supply Question

I have a fuzz face type of pedal that I build from a schematic using prototype board. I notice when I use one of my power supplies that has only 500mA, I get noise from the pedal’s output. (Almost sounds like night crickets in a forest.) But, when I use my other power supply that has 1700mA, the...

    KiCAD or Eagle?

I have a cheap $150 PC but my main computer is an iMac.

    KiCAD or Eagle?

I’m ready to take the next step and start working on building custom PCBs. I’m a tech savvy guy and not worried about the learning curve, so if one is more complex, but better, that is ok with me. My question is, should I get into learning KiCAD or Eagle? Which is better and why? Something I...

Lost friction in potentiometer after cleaning

Would the Fader stuff be better for me to have started with for cleaning?

Lost friction in potentiometer after cleaning

Kliche Mini. But I can’t say for sure if these three pots were scratchy. I got a batch of pots that kept coming out that way right out of the gate so instead of reopening the new pedals I would clean all and any pots first. (Not knowing it desolves grease.) I guess I should stop doing that. I’m...

Lost friction in potentiometer after cleaning

What is the long term solution? Replace the pot? Irony is I’m putting brand new pots in. They just happened to be scratchy upon arrival.

Lost friction in potentiometer after cleaning

I’ve been cleaning scratchy potentiometers with DeoxIt D5. Sometimes it causes a loss in friction and the potentiometer becomes too easy to spin/change. I guess it loses its grease or something, or loosens the grease inside that acts as a mechanical resistance for making the knobs change more...

IC Chip Orientation - Ocelot Build

Do I have the IC chip orientation correct on these? I think I’ve got it right but double-checking before soldering them down because there are seven of them and I’m not using sockets. I always thought the dot aligns with the side containing the arch marking and square pad. However, in this case...

    Substitute for 2SK30A?

Thanks. I’ll give it a try. My 2N5457s are from Tayda. I’ll socket them and see what happens.
