    NE555D SMD Orientation

Sometimes there is a small indentation at pin 1, or a stripe.

    Does anyone LIKE soldering SMDs?

Sure. I think I even prefer this to through hole stuff. No bending of the legs, no flying wires. Pure relaxation :)

I think there's plenty of room for the charge pump ;)

The Week on the Breadboard: The Emperor of Tone

Mystery solved.. before I wrote the above I checked output signal on the oscilloscope. And the Hard potentiometer made quite visible impact on the singnal amplitude but the I could not hear much of a difference in the headphones. Now I know why.. even with the Hard maxed the output signal level...

The Week on the Breadboard: The Emperor of Tone

I have Rhythm channel on a breadboard now with +/- 9V supply. I only managed to play for a moment, so I can't say much. Just a quick one - with +-9V power supply there is quite a large output signal (although it depends on the Hard pot setting). Also - for me - a lot of lows with the 470n...

Gorilla Glasses clipping pot no effect

Here's the output signal with clipping pot @ min and max: 1. Ltsice simulation. 2. Circuit on breadboard. Pot @ max pot @ min Check connection between diodes and GND and also diodes and clipping pot. Inspect the PCB. Maybe there's an error on a PCB? Missing track?

Gorilla Glasses clipping pot no effect

Make sure that R13 is 4k7 not 47R. There shoud be visible difference on the oscilloscope between min and max pot setting. What's the signal level between C15 and R13? Did you measure clipping level with maxed gain?

    Noob question VCC and VREF

I suppose you can use +9V and VR. Just make sure that +9V is label name, not a solderpad name.

When to use J113 to substitute J201 ?

As a gain stage - not really. As a buffer (source follower) - yes. https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/son-of-ben-no-signal.23240/

    HiwattDr103 pedal clone unstable

By increasing the value of the feedback resistor , the gain of the opamp increases. The equation for the on-inverting op apmp is quite simple Av=1+(R2/R1) where R2 is our feedback resistor. So, with default values we have 1+(3k3/1k) = 4.3. 1V in = 4.3V out. By clipping I mean cutting top and...

    HiwattDr103 pedal clone unstable

Couple things you can try. 1. Lower the gain of the first op amp. Replace 3k3 with 2k or even 1k5. With 1k5 you need around 2Vpp at the input to see the cliping of the 1st opamp. Seems to be a safe margin. 2. Increase gain of the 5th op amp a bit. Replace 1k5 with higher value. Judge by ear...

    HiwattDr103 pedal clone unstable

How do you use the DR103? As an overdrive for a clean amp, as a preamp for a power amp, as a preamp for an audio interface? Maybe you need to make sure that the input signal does not exceed a safe level and implement the additional drive in a different way? For example, check if it is safe to...

    HiwattDr103 pedal clone unstable

I refer to the original schematic, but it doesn't really matter. First, second - counting from input. I'm afraid so. It' does not look like typical crossover distortion. But take a look here. The thing is that I tested three different opamps (not fakes) with the DR103 and the result was the...

    HiwattDr103 pedal clone unstable

So.. there's definitely something going on. With single coils - no issues. With humbucker and stronger strumming - some kind of fizz. Quite familiar sounding, like crossover distortion. So I took the oscilloscope and signal generator. Up to 500mVpp nothing interesting. Then signal starts to...
