Another day, another question! Recommended silicon transistor for a Range Finder build?

Also wanted to say what spi said :) I like the Dragons Breath with the 2N2222A. Ranger Finder build doc says "Q1 is typical Germanium PNP spec’d for Rangemaster type circuit". So I'm just wondering if you can just swap out Germanium with a Silicon and call it a day without having the circuit...

    Soldering techniques

Hi all, I had a little bit of a "revelation" when I was doing the Thumb Sucker. I was reading the Valve Wizard documentation (Link to PDF) and it said this: "Best soldering practice is to tack solder the component in place so it does not fall out, then snip off the excess leads. Then re-solder...

    SOLVED Another Squealing/Oscillating Boogie Monster

No problem debrad, I have the JFETs in sockets so it's not a big deal. By the way, I just tried the SMD JFETs again with ROG settings. When I put a buffer in front of it the squealing stops immediately. I tried it with my tuner, a TC Polytune 3, which has a buffer built in. Putting a buffer up...

    SOLVED Another Squealing/Oscillating Boogie Monster

Thanks for the video debrad! I have some spare SMD J201s lying around so I tested with the through-hole J201s that came with the Musikding Boogie Monster kit and the SMD ones. I think I may have been able to recreate the noise from your video, you be the judge. The attached recordings are all...

    SOLVED Another Squealing/Oscillating Boogie Monster

Hi debrad, Could you upload a short sound sample with all knobs at 100%? I got a Boogie Monster, too, and find it strangely quiet. When I have all knobs at 100% I get what I would call a bit of feedback. But not sure if you're having just the same or if it's completely something else.

    Boogie Monster: picking the J201s

Hi all, It worked out fine. I went with the through-hole J201 from the kit and put highest Vp to lowest (0.8 to 0.6) from Q1 to Q5. And then I set the drains to a bit over 6V at Q1 till Q4 as per ROG calculator. It sounds amazing. Never played anything with this much gain in my life. Always...

    Quality of guitarpcbmania pcbs?

Hi all, I just boxed up a Vandal From Hell from them recently and I love it, it's brutal (once you boost its input a bit). Small nitpick, you need to bend one resistor a tiny bit to have enough space for the 220u cap next to it. The pedal was a tight fit into the 125b, but now I'm happy that...

    Boogie Monster: picking the J201s

Oh forgot to mention something. Today the Boogie Monster kit arrived. And to my surprise it didn't contain the SMD J201s but instead Musikding put TO-92 J201s with an "F" marking on them and also a string saying "BAI7", or maybe "BAT7" or "BA17". And they measure at a bit higher Vp than the SMD...

    Boogie Monster: picking the J201s

Hi all! Thanks very much for all of your replies! I didn't expect that many! I'll take your suggestions to heart and not worry so much about the JFETs in the Boogie Monster. I checked and found some sockets that I can use in my tool box, so I'll use them here for the transistors so I can swap...

    Boogie Monster: picking the J201s

Hi all! I'm gonna get started on the Boogie Monster soon, tomorrow I suppose. I have a cheap transistor tester that shows Vg(off) and Idss and about 20 J201s (SMDs on adapters). So far I measured 10 and they have Idss from 1.1 to 1.4mA and Vg from 553 to 799mV. I read a post somewhere here on...

SOLVED Closed Circuit C106 optional or not?

Thank you for the information Bricksnbeatles, much appreciated. Will do it like you said. Kind regards, Seb

SOLVED Closed Circuit C106 optional or not?

Hi all, I'm building the PedalPCB Closed Circuit at the moment. I was about to solder the caps when I realized that I'm apparently one 100nF (=0.1uF) short. The Musikding kit contains four 100nF caps. It looks to me like a fifth 100nf was not sent because the BOM contained in the PedalPCB build...

    Thumb Sucker

Hi all, I boxed up a Thumb Sucker yesterday. Easy build, didn't take too long, no problems. It's low noise. The bright switch difference is subtle, but when I turn it off I miss it immediately :) All knobs work. With the release knob it is a bit hard to tell. But I found that when it's CCW and...

    Thumbsucker "stock" markings

Yes, exactly, that's the plan. I'd just like to know if I got this correct: Threshold pot: 1M between lugs 1 and 2 Release pot: 370k between lugs 1 and 2 (because in PedalPCB layout there's a 100k in series in front of the pot) Attack pot: 0Ohm between lugs 1 and 2 (fully counter clockwise)

    Thumbsucker "stock" markings

Hi jimilee, it's not about taste, I'd just like markings on the three extra pots of the Thumbsucker that get me to the values of Merlin's Engineer's Thumb 2 knob pedal.

    Thumbsucker "stock" markings

Hi all! Beginner here. I have a Thumbsucker kit to build and to make my life easier I want to mark the stock settings of the Engineer's Thumb on the Threshold, Release and Attack pots on the decal (with a red dot or line in the 1 to 10 scales surrounding these three knobs). With "stock...
