Right, I’ve seen acrylic panels with transparent windows. The trick there is still how would you cleanly mount something like that in a standard guitar pedal enclosure so the see-through acrylic part is nearly flush with the top side of the enclosure?

I just built this pedal with the same mods as the OP (thanks for posting them). Still getting used to the pedal and trying to figure out how to set up the DIP switches and treble/presence trimmer for optimal sound, but so far it seems pretty great!
This is my first attempt designing and printing the artwork for a pedal. I used water slide paper and my Inkjet printer. I also sprayed some clear coats after putting it on the pedal top. Hopefully it’ll have decent longevity.
