Can a pedal blow my power supply?

Yup! The datasheet link I posted has the specs. My charger has an internal resistance megaohm tester, and I test each battery after charging. No unusual degradation in these batteries. New range is 65 to 80, death and possible spontaneous combustion is at 255. I retire them at 180. Most...

Can a pedal blow my power supply?

My first attempt with 16 batteries in four sleds was huge overkill. About 14.8v to 16v with full charge, it runs for months without having to recharge, and it's HUUUUGGGGGEEE and heavy. I'm still using it but plan to make a smaller version with 8 ports and 8 batteries. The MP1584EN runs at...

Can a pedal blow my power supply?

These units have self terminating power if something is shorted. Try disconnecting all the connections, then power it on, then stick a cable in and see if it has power. I had a friend "help" me by plugging in a cable that would double the voltage to 18v and everything stopped working. I...

Cable for Guitar & Speaker Cabinets

It occurred to me my answer may not have made sense to anyone that doesn't understand macroeconomics. Inflation means the amount of material that a dollar can purchase declines. Since other nations use the dollar standard that means the amount of their purchase declines as well. If a mythical...

Cable for Guitar & Speaker Cabinets

Most countries use the dollar standard. I was around for the first time when Carter did the exact same thing with the same results worldwide.

Cable for Guitar & Speaker Cabinets

Since I'm retired I get a cost of living increase refereed to as C.O.L.A. My cola this year should have been 60%. It was 3.2%. This is pure dishonest thievery.....

Cable for Guitar & Speaker Cabinets

That's one side, you wouldn't want to run your speakers 100ft, that's for sure. But for the 2' you need for a head cab it's ok. This is their logic and specs. I swear the ground is thicker than 12ga when you gather it together.... "studio" cable. As in you want as little bleed from the...

Cable for Guitar & Speaker Cabinets

When you cut off all domestic oil production "to save the planet" but then just buy it from someone else that's what happens! My food, oil, gasoline are all delivered by truck, raise the fuel price and everything goes UP UP UP. I would LOVE to see the energy grid changed to hydrogen. The...

Cable for Guitar & Speaker Cabinets

The normal general consensus is that you don't need to shield 100v 50w from inductance. And that's mostly true, unless there is a high voltage neon light overhead. But unshielded speaker wire can then be inducted into other signal paths! Mogami's claim to fame is (according to their data)...

Cable for Guitar & Speaker Cabinets

The mogami uses the ground as shielding, preventing induction as well as affection. I bought about 50' of it when it was .65 a foot about 20 years ago. I only have about 8 feet left..... The price has almost doubled!!!!! https://www.redco.com/Mogami-W3082.html

Cable for Guitar & Speaker Cabinets

I use thick too, but most output transformers have only 18. So it depends on the length, if under a foot 18 would be fine, but I use 10 most of the time simply because I have 1500' of it left over from an electrical job. My company was throwing it away about a year after a big project, I...

New Amp Build 5E3+I've been Steggo inspired

🤟 One of the reasons why I like solid core teflon insulated is the wires are so thin. About half the thickness, while having a higher dielectric makes it easier to squeeze all that wiring into that tiny box!

Component Testing Is Breaking My Brain

Ah, okay. That makes sense. I switched to NIMH to get a real 9v. They last a long time especially in a low drain device like an active pickup in an acoustic. And no possibility of self combustion.... edited: I just read the link you posted "it is strictly prohibited to short circuit" and...

Component Testing Is Breaking My Brain

Wow, about 15 years ago I got 'burnt' by the first gen "9v" lithium, which were more like 8v. Had to toss them. Good to see they got that fixed. You can find REALLY good deals on used flukes on eBay. Dirty, beat to hell, but work perfect. And if they don't you just go to Contact...

Rockman X100 Power Supply With MP1584EN DC-DC Buck Converter

You'd be better off with a 12vdc supply. I haven't actually tried to see what would happen but the specs definitely specify *at least* 3v of difference. https://html.alldatasheet.com/html-pdf/551593/MPS/MP1584EN/55/1/MP1584EN.html

    Shorting Jacks?

I test every component when I'm building an amp, including the switch on the jacks. I was testing a switchcraft and THE SWITCH WASN'T MAKING CONTACT. My jaw hit the floor. I folded some 1000 grit sandpaper in half so both sides were the sandy side, opened the switch with a screwdriver blade...

Rockman X100 Power Supply With MP1584EN DC-DC Buck Converter

It is true that you need 3v of difference. I used some of these to convert the DC from 18650 batteries. I used four in series to make around 15V so my 9V gives me that drop. Suckers are dead silent..... Tayda sells the 4S 18650 sleds for about a buck each.
