    Missing Build Docs / Schematics

as a technology guy I refuse to read manuals, figure it out on my own, and then don’t write down anything so the next time I (or god forbid a coworker) need to do it I gotta do it all over again. Two decades in IT and it hasn’t failed me yet.

For those familiar with effectslayout 3pdt boards

Fun fact unrelated to this thread (if you’re not getting sound I’d double check that the 3PDT switch is good, then start probing the board if that’s not it), the EffectsLayouts boards with the on-board LED pads are cross-compatible with PedalPCB boards (and PPCB breakout boards are compatible...

*that*. Those “famed” NTE103s Cesar Diaz used could have been any of four different rebadged transistors. “Mojo” was, is, and always will be snake oil, but building the lore of your “mojo” parts on NTE part numbers is particularly egregious. Makes wrapping your PCBs in fabric seem downright...

    Where is everyone fabbing PCBs?

Was not aware that was an option and will be doing so going forward, thanks for the tip!

“Famed NTE Germanium Transistors!” Are these people aware NTE doesn’t actually make stuff, they just buy and rebadge? Like, even if you *are* looking for magical parts, buying NTE *anything* means you actually have no idea what wizard made the magical part in the first place???

    Where is everyone fabbing PCBs?

I'm weirdly impressed that, since it's an x86 Windows App, running in Wine, then translated through Rosetta to run on Apple ARM, it runs at all. Or at least that's what I tell myself, over and over and over, as I have to click "Schematic Capture" about a dozen times before it opens without...

LOL never heard of DanDrive, apparently they cloth-wrap all of their stuff - including the PCB. Now *that* is how you sell a $600 Fuzz Face.

LED placement is the same as well (same place it is on the 6-knob layouts too, above the footswitch)

Fairchild 2n3903’s hfe in 80’s at AIONFX

They're probably the same manufacturing process and then binned for gain.

If you can swing the shipping they're even cheaper at Mouser https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Central-Semiconductor/2N3903-PBFREE?qs=u16ybLDytRYJvoee7rvU0w%3D%3D

    Where to get this foam?

Nothing quite as much fun as getting a TL072 Rat King in the mail, unbending all the legs, and praying nothing broke while you test 'em all :/

Looks like any 4-knob Type 1 drill template will work

What's your favorite "Swiss Army Knife" dirt pedal

Read through the thread and am shocked there's no mention of the Smallsound/Bigsound Mini! That's my desert island/swiss army knife dirt pedal, the range of textures you can get with its bias knob and EQ section is *huge*, from clean boost to splatty fuzz, and its voice is wide enough to...

    Loft Fuzz (Green)

They don't The original was full of big carbon comp resistors and giant axial capacitors; this one sounds the same

    Loft Fuzz Dual Pedal Wiring

https://wiki.pedalpcb.com/wiki/3PDT_Order_Switch_Wiring (also worth remembering, the original pedal didn't allow you to run one fuzz into the other, it was either-or and the second footswitch chose between them. Not sure how good or not they'd sound in series, only one way to find out!)

Precipice looks like the standard 3-knob type 1, Poison Apple looks like the standard 4-knob type 1 The Scenario you can use the same drill template as the Powder Blue (4-knob layout but you drill the center LED hole bigger for the center switch)...

What Big Muff should I build next?

This one. It’s a *lot*, and it won’t sound much like any of the other muffs on your list. https://www.pedalpcb.com/product/pcb547/

    2N1304 Alternatives

The eBay listing I bought mine from is no longer live but if you search eBay for "GM328" you'll find the transistor tester I use (I bought the kit form, you can also buy it pre-assembled I think), it measures leakage (Ices and Iceo)

I believe the 2n169 usually has decently low hfe https://www.tubesandmore.com/products/transistor-2n169-germanium-oval-case-npn I don't have any more of them but if you can find some MP35s I remember those all having mid-two-figure gains; if you've got a transistor tester like the Mega328 it's...
