You might have a tube that does not like only 9V on the heater, most tubes run ok with 9V on the heater but it takes a bit longer to heat up with 9V. The tubes are designed to run on 12.6V +- 10% on the heaters but can be run on less heater voltage usually.

I might have to order a Vampire Slayer when I get a Supersonic as well, I don't want to leave just the one out.

The ratings are the limit for that tube, not what it will draw when used. The rest of the circuit determines the current flowing in the tube. (apart from the heaters) As long as the ratings are above what is needed it will be fine. Just because the speedo in a car says max 260 kph does not mean...

I just placed the switch into a bare King Nothing PCB and in the middle position there is nothing connected,I would say that a normal ON-OFF-ON switch could be used in the King Nothing.
