This Week on the Breadboard: The Runoff Groove Thunderbird

@Chuck D. Bones question. You did a version of Diamond Peak (cb mod), and I saw a build report of someone who did a board. Do you happen to know if the board is available?

This Week on the Breadboard: The Runoff Groove Thunderbird

Well I just bought two more boards! (Mojito and Fuschia). Looks like you can get an OD-3 for like $60 on Reverb. There's an Analog.man modded one on there for $150 -- not sure if worth it? The demo I saw of the Emerald one sounded great. I had watched a demo of the Plexi breed when you...

Carbon Summit (Animals Diamond Peak Overdrive - CB Mod)

Are the boards for this available anywhere? I was asking Chuck what were his favorite ODs and this one came up.

Solder pots for soldering whole boards?

Has anyone tried this? I saw an ad fulltone pedals and they showed one being used in the ad to solder like 20 pedals at once. I looked and there are smaller ones that can do like one pedal PCB board. Are these useful?

    Is freestompboxes.org dead?

I got the confirmation email in about ten seconds.

This Week on the Breadboard: The Runoff Groove Thunderbird

So @Chuck D. Bones question -- you know I'm a super-fan of the Viceroy. Do you like this Thunderbird circuit more, less than or about the same? I would love to know your top 5 OD circuits!

This Week on the Breadboard: The Runoff Groove Thunderbird

Question -- this all op-amps and diodes to get this sound. Could the same be done with JFET gain stages to get the clipping that way instead? Would it feel more natural or more responsive?

This Week on the Breadboard: The Runoff Groove Thunderbird

Heh. I looked up a couple of YouTube videos on the original pedal. The *second* they click it on it's HSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Sounds good though.

    6-Band EQ w/LED sliders

How did you do the artwork? Is it a sticker, or a wet decal? It looks great! And yeah love the LED-lit sliders.

DEMO [Vero] EHX Big Muff 2 “Bob Meyer pencil schematic” version

Wow I'm really liking the low end on this thing. Like Alice and Chains or Soundgarden -- I like what you're playing! Doesn't hurt going through the 4x12 and the nice amp too! And the sound at about 1:50 when you're playing sort of dark harmony in the middle of the neck -- that's a *great*...

Chop Shop V2 -- first pedal! -- Sounds Great!

Yeah when I did the Viceroy (also in the build reports), the leads are at least somewhat neater.

It would honestly not surprise me if the meter is screwball. I attached a pic w/one of the JFETs in it. It looks like it tries to figure out Vg at Id 0, and maybe takes another measurement and tries to project Idss, though I don't know? Idss looks like maybe 0.46mA but it's overlapped with...

Chop Shop V2 -- first pedal! -- Sounds Great!

So I built my first pedal ever. I had chanced upon the review of the Fairfield Barbershop on YouTube and liked it, and became fascinated with JFET overdrive then discovered PedalPCB and the forum! Got super into reading all the old threads, particularly Chucks Boneyard where they talked about...

    Viceroy (Boneyard Edition) sounds spectacular!

This is a super fun project. I really like the sounds of JFET overdrive both with the Chop Shop and the Viceroy. The Viceroy can get a lot of the Chop Shop sounds, but is way more versatile. Particularly when playing with headphones and the so-so cab simulator built into my amplifier, being...

Why are JFETs such a Pain in the Ass?

Where can I get one of these boards?

OK...I worry that this is getting too close to "debugging my Viceroy" instead of "circuit of Viceroy" so if you want to give me the boot, fair enough. Interesting you mention about the PF5102 being 4.0 - 20mA Idss. I bought ten of these from stompboxparts and none of them are above 0.75mA on...

P.S. Two questions. 1. Given your experience with the circuit, if I have like 10 5102s, beyond Idss needing to be larger for Q2 are there ideal ranges for Q2 and Q3 Idss? In other words, is the pedal better with lower or higher Idss transistors if I'm selecting from what I have? 2. All of my...
