    SOLVED Windmill CB Mod

Mon Cher chat. Thank you so much for your help. It's always appreciated. Oddly enough, I did think of that and it was only functional in the non twisted position. I will see what the transistor tester says, but maybe this indicates a funky j112 or something wrong in my circuit somehow. I do...

    SOLVED Windmill CB Mod

Alright, here is maybe a slightly more productive direction to remedy my anemic build: what would I need to do to increase the gain of the circuit? I am proceeding on the assumption that the issue is with Q1 since it's the most modified, and Q2 and Q3 seem to be responsive to the VREF trimpot...

I think the idea is that hole lets the transistor body through, but catches the legs and holds them against the pads. Seems like it could be kind of a lengthy process to insert/remove the smd, and why is the clamping force so far away from the clamped object?

All the better to use weak magnets, most likely, if magnets are the way. Currently exploring some ideas with my synth-building buddy who is deep into 3D printing.

How hard would it be to 3D print a short column overtop of an adapter board with a keyhole in the middle the shape of a SMD transistor?

.090/.093, sorry. Yes, it's in the high range for J201, thus the frustration at losing it. Most are clocking between .040 and .08. Surprisingly, the Interfet through-hole are more consistent in their range in my measurement history.

I don't know about you, but I want to invest as little as possible in SMD transistors and their accoutrements. I really dislike working with them. Maybe even loathe it. I found *one* SMD J201 out of a batch of 20 that I could pair at .93 IDSS with a .90 IDSS I had already soldered in my...

I should have added the gain is not very apparent. Plenty of volume, not a lot of breakup. I'm guessing it's something to do with the J112 seeing as the BS170s are biasing to target ranges? I don't really know what the source reading should be. I guess the drain looks okay ~9v coming off...

    Help measuring SMD JFETS

I feel like there has to be a 3d printing file somewhere or that somebody can design that will do what we all need in a jig. With or without magnets.

MichaelW and the rest-- I don't think the magnet idea is dead yet. It just needs a less powerful field. The magnetic bits are the feet. I think with a strong magnet, it's double the force pulling down on the side with two feet than with one, so it lifts. If the pulling force isn't so great...

Well, it ain't called electromagnetism for nothing. I think the only way to be really sure is to do the scientific thing and test a JFET with and without magnet to see if the readings shift in a significant way. Might be an argument for a weaker magnet as well.

I mostly have rare earth magnets and the fields were making the smd stand on end (the two prong side). It could be a case of too much of a good thing or maybe I need to position it better as suggested by MichaelW. Will test again.

    SOLVED Windmill CB Mod

Hey folks, It's been a frustrating week with pedal builds and mods. Finally measured all of my SMD J201s so I could implement the optimal OKKO Diablo/Deofol JFET cascade, and the crown jewel, the only 0.93 IDSS I have pinged off my chest and into the wilds of my basement when I was trying to...

Yeah, I tested out the idea. The SMDs are super magnetic and will leap towards the magnet, it's true. Buuut, I tried several different types and orientations of magnets, and in each case, the SMD wanted to stand on end, unfortunately. I don't have the similar style bar magnet as you have (is...

WEll that is a very handy trick! For soldering for sure, and also for sticking on an SMD board with leads to test. I wonder if it would screw with the readings, though. My issue is that the TC1 can apparently read through-hole JFETS but not SMD. I don't know why. I guess I will just gut it...

Came across owlexifry and Chuck's convo https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/jfet-shootout.13363/reply?quote=178707 Made the "little tester" on breadboard with MMBFJ201 and a 1m resistor, 9v power supply. Getting kind of variable readings depending on angle and pressure on the JFET in the jig...

I am trying to follow Chucks wisdom rebuilding the Deofol with properly sequenced J201s. But I've run out of through-hole, so now I have 20 little grains of effing rice to try to measure to find target IDSS and VP. I thought it would be as easy as making a viable test bed and plugging it in to...
