This Week on the Breadboard: The VHT Deliverance Preamp Emulator

My mods to DEEP & PRESENCE address both of those issues. DEEP goes lower and PRESENCE definitely goes lower.

This Week on the Breadboard: The VHT Deliverance Preamp Emulator

Depends on the load. The Deliverance pedal does not produce such extreme waveforms. Except for the 550mV offset, the waveforms are identical. The AC component of the diode current is much smaller than the DC component. Red trace = diode anode Green trace = diode cathode

The anode side of the diode is biased at Vref and the 5.6K resistor goes to ground. So there is always DC current flowing from the opamp output thru the diode and resistor to GND.

This Week on the Breadboard: The VHT Deliverance Preamp Emulator

I could see making DEEP & PRESENCE internal trimmers. I think TREBLE & BASS have enough range once D & P are set the way we like. MORE & LESS are easily tweaked (C3, C4, R4, R5), maybe trimmers there too.

What amplifiers do you like for testing how a pedal design/modification sounds?

Yes and no. One headphones amp, the one I use the most for pedal testing, has no EQ, The other headphones amp has a cab sim (PPCB UniCab), an amp emulator (PPCB Golden Falk) and reverb.

I NEED a pedal that emulates VHT/Fryette sound. Which PPCB could be?

What amplifiers do you like for testing how a pedal design/modification sounds?

Not dumb. Nothing in the signal chain has a flat freq response, including the room, so why should the amp be set to flat? I set mine for the desired tone with the pedals off. If I have to adjust the amp to make a pedal sound good, then that pedal is no bueno in my book.

What amplifiers do you like for testing how a pedal design/modification sounds?

What is this lightning conversion? My Monoprice is stock except for a 12AT7 in the front end and a variable speaker attenuator at the tail end.

What amplifiers do you like for testing how a pedal design/modification sounds?

I start out using headphones, then use a 15W tube amp set for clean.

This Week on the Breadboard: The VHT Deliverance Preamp Emulator

Found this on PCBWay, designed by Glory to Ukraine. Based on the name, I half expected this to be a banjo pedal. This schematic is from the build docs. Most of it makes sense, although I fail to see the need for input and output buffers. I breadboarded it per the schematic, minus the input...

MODIFICATION The FZ-1 - CB style

Those voltages look reasonable. I suggest that you open a troubleshooting thread in the the Troubleshoot forum. Be sure to post detailed photos, schematic, etc.

MODIFICATION The FZ-1 - CB style

What voltages do you have on Q1-S, Q2-C & Q3-C? Bear in mind (pun intended) that Small Bear's Fuzz circuit runs on 1.5V. This circuit runs on approx 3V, so you need to double the voltages that SB recommends to get the bias in the ballpark. If you are building the circuit I describe in this...

This week on the Breadboard: The Emerald Green Overdrive

They're not that different from Vero boards. Think of a breadboard as a Vero with a lotta jumpers.

This week on the Breadboard: The Emerald Green Overdrive

Nice board, nice build! I like the color scheme ;) HFE = 25 is WAAAAY out of spec for 2N1308. I hope you didn't pay too much for it. But seriously folks, this circuit is very forgiving for HFE & Iceo (leakage). Still, there are some Ge trannys that will sound better than others. I...

    Golden Falk (Colombo Plexi Breed)

The only reason I can think of for a pedal builder to use disc ceramic caps is MONEY. Pros: dirt cheap Cons: unreliable microphonic non-linear dielectric absorption (muddies the tone, may or may not be audible depending on the circuit)

This Week on the Breadboard: The Electro-Harmonix Big Muff 2

"No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!" The 5W resistor is for breadboards only. In a pedal, I'd use 1/4W. The other purpose for R21 is to provide a small amount of resistance between the power supply and the filter caps on the 9V rail. Some power supplies will go unstable (oscillate)...

The Skreddy muffs are ok, but his best work, IMHO, is the Lunar Module, Screw Driver, Hybrid Fuzz Driver series. Those are freakin' AWESOME!
