I'm going to say there is some truth to that (but I'm not an expert), because of thru-hole components have more of their leg/pins exposed. Which could act like an antenna. Again I just dabble in the world of electronics.

I've tried getting into SG's and everyone I've own I turned around and sold, but damn this is a nice looking SG... love the top.

My 1995 MIM with parts from the Corona Factory when they moved to Mexico. I purchased it new in 1995 in Brunswick, ME.

Even though I use my signal gen and my old 12" speaker to do the samething. I picked one of these up and hopefully there is a file on Thingerverse to print an eclosure.
