I use my index, thumb and try to get right at the bend point. Bend it slightly past 180 the opposite way, then pinch and slide your fingers out to try and straighten it. Redo until happy.

I normally go two routes. 1- Certain projects I will make a BOM to order, normally from Mouser, all the parts needed. For specialty parts, I get elsewhere. 2- I also use Stompboxparts for making a BOM. The benefit here is the parts are already correct for pedals and for the resistors you get...
