EXAMPLE Developing a custom pcb for Daisy Seed - Funbox

Wanted to add this bit of information for anyone ordering their own PCBs. I've been reading up on the two main different types of surface finishes, HASL vs. ENIG. Google search summarizes it like this (and I looked at other sources and it seems correct): " For guitar pedals, ENIG is generally...

Just ordered the Terrarium, wondering about sourcing parts

I use Tayda, mainly because I like to order their pre drilled and powder coated enclosures, so it's cheap to add any components to the order. I also like to use LoveMySwitches for knobs, footswitches. Digikey or Mouser for any electronics that Tayda doesn't have. Looks like the Pod has a 1/8"...

Terrarium Rev 1 with Daisy Seed v1.2 rev 7 Noise Issue Work Around - Applies to OLD Terrarium REV 1 board only!

No, with the added lowpass filter the lower leg of C2 is connected in series with the new 3k resister to the audio pin. Without the lowpass filter it's connected directly to the audio out pin. So think of the 3k resister as going in between the audio out pin and C2. If you look at my picture...

Terrarium Rev 1 with Daisy Seed v1.2 rev 7 Noise Issue Work Around - Applies to OLD Terrarium REV 1 board only!

Only the resistor and capacitor, the op amp is the already existing part of the circuit (TL072 in the terrarium).

    VFE Klein Bottle

Oh no! It's an impressive build anyway, good job on it. What's up with the pcb? Is that a grid ground plane? Some googling looks like there is a stereo version of this pedal in the works, $50000 pledged.. I think I'm going about this pedal thing all wrong

    BBE Phoenix Lights phaser

Nice! I recently finished the series, not a huge fan of the ending, but overall a very entertaining show. My favorite episodes tended to be the monster of the week ones.

You crank these pedals out fast! Getting serious X-Files vibes from this one, something tells me you might be a fan?

Awesome project and super cool graphics as usual! Great to see the code in action!

EXAMPLE Developing a custom pcb for Daisy Seed - Funbox

You can definitely configure the Funbox to run multiple effects, they just all have to be included in a single binary file to upload to the Daisy Seed, if that makes sense. There's another really great Daisy Seed pedal project that has a OLED screen, which lends itself to having multiple...

    Funbox: "House Sparrow Multieffects"

Very nice build! And a great write up. I like the bird graphic on the front. I see you're using the TL074 quad op amp, I've since updated the docs and pcb to recommend a MCP6024 as a result of some noise testing, but the TL074 should do fine. If you do get any significant noise issues let me...

EXAMPLE Developing a custom pcb for Daisy Seed - Funbox

You could probably take a spectral approach for chorus/flanger/phaser, but off the top of my head I'm not sure how. I think it would be much heavier on the processor than the traditional approach, but maybe there's some interesting things you can do in the frequency domain for those effects...

EXAMPLE Developing a custom pcb for Daisy Seed - Funbox

Next Funbox module, Saturn! Saturn is a "spectral delay", which is turning out to be one of my favorite effects. There are a handful of audio plugins that are advertised as spectral delays, but I have never seen one in pedal form. It works by using a STFT (short time Fourier transform) which...

EXAMPLE Developing a custom pcb for Daisy Seed - Funbox

Yes, 100pF is correct, good catch! I’ll update the BOM, and either type should be fine, but I’ll also update to specify MMLC since that’s what I used. Good luck with the build!

EXAMPLE Developing a custom pcb for Daisy Seed - Funbox

Haha awesome, glad the guide could answer your questions! With Oshpark I've only used the purple prototype boards, which I think are the cheapest option. Let me know of any feedback you might have throughout the build process, hopefully all goes smoothly.

EXAMPLE Developing a custom pcb for Daisy Seed - Funbox

New video, just me explaining the project and github repo, so probably a bit dull unless you are actually building one. I go through the main points of the KiCad design file and code:

EXAMPLE Developing a custom pcb for Daisy Seed - Funbox

New planet module, Venus! I think I had said there wouldn't be a new one for awhile, but last week I stumbled on an open source example of running a STFT (Short Time Fourier Transform) on the Daisy Seed, and from that I was able to do some interesting things inspired by a jsfx Reaper plugin...

    Funbox Builds

Yeah the potentiometers all go to the same ADC pins as terrarium, but the switches are wired up differently, and are sideways. Stereo in/out, 4 dip switches, and the filter for noise reduction on seed rev 7 are the other differences. I considered doing a true bypass relay but not really enough...

    Funbox Builds

@crashguitar These are so nice looking!! I really like the candy powder coats. Thank YOU for taking a chance on building these, you're the first person I'm aware of besides myself that has built one. How well did the enclosure dip switch and 1/8th jack holes line up? I was thinking those holes...
