This is a necro bump but I'm building this pedal and I don't get an HFE reading using the above method. My DCA75 gives me back 2 diodes. Have you tried this?

I still have a Barber Direct Drive V2 that I bought in the early 2000's. One of the very few retail pedals I own. This version, the Candid Drive, adds some bells and whistles but is still basically the same drive. An under-appreciated MIAB pedal IMO. Nice job on the win!

My VHT amp (D-Fifty) is very end user mod friendly. I'm assuming the Special 6 Ultra is the same? There's some good tones in that little thing!

This was my gateway compressor, first one I built. It was all over after that.....I think I've built every DIY compressor ever...hahaha. Yes it's subtle, yes it colors the tone, but it's still a cool compressor. Beautiful build as always my friend!

The Magnetron sounds darker to me as well. But it's still a really solid PT2399 delay.

It's super subtle. But you should be hearing some coloring of the tone and light compression.

I hooked mine up to my ears and I'm hearing the same as you. I've always believed the delay times were limited by the particular 2399 IC but maybe I'm wrong about that?

If you can remove it carefully, it's very easy to breadboard a tester. Set up a simple breadboard with 9v supply through a CLR resistor. Like 4k7. Plug the negative leg on the LED side of the optocoupler inline with the resistor. The other side to 9v power rail. Leave the LDR side of the legs...
