More Vintage Gear: Roland AP-2 Phase Shifter

It feels like some treble is getting lost somewhere and it might be the buffer. I'm away from home for a few days, but when I get back I'll look into it.

Why are JFETs such a Pain in the Ass?

No. Idss means Drain Current with Source Shorted (to gate). In other words, connect gate to source when measuring Idss.

What's All This Stuff About Germanium Diode Leakage?

    9nA is about what I'd expect for a 1N4148

This Week on the Breadboard: The Spirit in the Sky Fuzz

The original bias circuit was in Q2's feedback loop and affected both the bias and the gain. The bias circuit I implemented is outside the feedback loop and has much less influence over the gain.

TL074s would work great. Lotta different JFETs will work. Basically any JFET that would work in a Phase 90. Could use a charge pump to make the -9V rail, or run it on just +9V and make Vref, like a Phase 90.

Wah Inductors. No hype. Just measurements.

The output impedance of Q2 is no more than a few hundred Ohms. A 56K resistor is no match for that. Are you sure it connects to the emitter?

Another pedal from my brother's garage. I vaguely recall my roomie Richard owning this back in the mid 70's. I modded it for him by adding a DEPTH knob. He later sold it to me, I loaned it to my brother and forgot about it. Until a couple of weeks ago when he brought it back. Back in the...

Wah Inductors. No hype. Just measurements.

Bypassing Q2's emitter makes no sense to me. That's the feedback path. What do you think of this one?

Boutique Pedal Manufacturers Are Feeling the Tariff Pinch

A partial list of Canadian products subject to the new 50% tariff (no joke): marine buoys festive, carnival or other entertainment articles capes cloaks wigs (partial), false beards, eyebrows and the like, of synthetic textile materials This is going to ruin Halloween.

This Week on the Breadboard: The FreakZEQ

The FILTER knob goes + or -. At the minus end, we get a notch. This is with Q at 10, FREQ at 5, RANGE at LOW, FILTER at zero.

Opamps for Dummies - part 6a

It's been a loooooong time since I've cracked a textbook, and some of the ones I had in college were long on theory and short on practical applications. A mathematician and an engineer were both posed the following problem: A man and a woman start out 8m apart. Every 3 seconds, they cut the...

A Blast from the Past - Custom Flanger

All cleaned up. The best I can do without repainting it. It now has proper true-bypass switching. I corrected the pre-emphasis / de-emphasis circuitry, added one resistor and moved one capacitor. Like the Electric Mistress, it's a very minimalist Flanger; not much in the way of...

A Blast from the Past - Custom Flanger

I have it all traced out. It's pretty close to the Electric Mistress V2 shown in post #1. As I was drawing up the schematic, I noticed that I had screwed up the pre-emphasis / de-emphasis networks. Easily fixed by changing a few component values. I'm also going to swap out the SPEED pot for...
