074CD has been discontinued. Looks like the 074 may have been 5532ed. TI now lists it as cmos architecture. There's also the 074H, which has higher voltage rating and slew rate. The 074H looks pretty close to the 084H... Hmm... I'm going to guess we'll see a quiet replacement to the new spec die...

It's biased by the sundial, not the trimmer. You should probably look at the schematic.

The sundial has a much larger impact. The internal trimmer is just to get the most use out of the sundial. Most would prefer it to work as noon is normal bias. Starve/overbias in each direction. Diming the bias trimmer is like turning the sundial 10-15 degrees.

Yea, I'm sure. Pins 1 and 8 are offset adjustment, not compensation. One would wire a trimmer to rebalance the output around any DC offset. Not needed for our uses.

Your sine input is 9Vp-p? Should be more like 250-500mVp-p at most. Comp cap won't work with the Op07 as it's internally compensated. It's just the cheapest closest chip currently produced vs a 308. The low slew rounds off the high end at high gain. Higher slew chips can sound harsher and more...

With stave pots, you're not really biasing. You're just setting it for optimum functionality.

You can set it a few way. Turn the dial down and just the trimmer to "pedal barely functions" Set the dial to center and bias it to you're preferred FF bias voltage(4.2-4.5) Watch what this fuggin guy does, starting at 9 minutes.

Also, what Vpp input were you using? Sounds like it was maybe a little too hot.
