This Week on the Breadboard: The EHX Ripped Speaker

Good questions all. I don't know off hand. But in order to appear as tho I can keep up with such heady questions, I'll open one up on the bench and put my meters to it and see what sort of hal-way intelligent responses I can come up with. For starters, when the tone pot is used, basically the...

Glad you like it. I'm still learning SpinCAD/FV-1 stuff too. Shall we slate that one for D04 and move on to the next?

That's correct. In SpinCAD, this patch has no direct dry signal path, so it will sound quite underwhelming. If you want a more accurate audit, load it up in SpinCAD, then drop a "2:1 (x2) Mixer" block just above the Output block. Connect the outputs of the "2:1 (x2) Mixer" block to the Output...

Just trying variations on the theme. The added tone control mostly just plays with the bottom end.

@rwl and I worked up a more populated version of the TL431 and have PCBs for it.

@BrainGutz - OK, here's D04 Stereo Dream Delay.spcdj . . . . . (It's not as long or smooth as a real Day Dream delay, but it uses all the same elements.) { "formatVersion": 1, "buildNumber": 1070, "type": "patch", "patchFileName": "D04_Stereo_Dream_Delay.spcdj", "comments": {...

I already have a Day Dream Delay patch in mono and am now working on it to bring it to stereo. I'll name it "D04_Stereo_Dream_Delay" and post it when done.

Nice treatise. And FWIW, I found a much simpler/smaller torn speaker-like circuit using a TL431 reference diode as the heart of the fart. (If this sort of supplanting is not encouraged in these TWOTB threads, just LMK and I'll remove it.)

Again, thank you DL! If I understand this optimization correctly, any where there are multiple SKP RUN ,x (where x is a numeral), the SKP RUN ,x (where the x is the same number), can be removed from their current positions, moved to the top, where x becomes the total number lines to be skipped...

Fair enough then. I'll move on to the next one - "Stereo Pitch-Shifted Feedback Delay: Dual delay lines running through a +1 octave pitch-shifter block inside the feedback loop." This one will need the two "2:1 Mixer", "Pot2" & 3rd "Scale/Offset" blocks removed and the "ThreeTap" delay blocks...

Thanks DL! As it turns out, I don't know how to aggregate all of the SKP RUNs. (I see that there are three of them.) If you would be so kind as to point me in the right (aggregate) direction please. Thank you.

Wah Inductors. No hype. Just measurements.

I fear that the customary vocabulary of electronics is woefully inadequate for what you have created here. To call these merely “wah inductors” would be rather like referring to Michelangelo’s David as an unusually elaborate garden ornament. No. These are monuments to electromagnetic...

Here's the SpinASM code for D03_Stereo_BBD_Delay_03 . . . . (Any line that starts with a semicolon is NOT counted as an Instruction line. I'm goona need to do some reading on SpinASM optimization to see if it can be shorted to 128 Instruction code lines.) ; D03_Stereo_BBD_Delay_03.spcdj ; Patch...

@BrainGutz - and here's the second candidate - "D03_Stereo_BBD_Delay_03.spcdj" . . . . (See my comments on this patch in the previous post.) { "formatVersion": 1, "buildNumber": 1070, "type": "patch", "patchFileName": "D03_Stereo_BBD_Delay_03.spcdj", "comments": { "fileName"...

Here's number 3 in the delay series: "D03_Stereo_BBD_Delay_02.spcdj" (A second candidate post will follow this one with "D03_Stereo_BBD_Delay_03.spcdj".) They're basically identical, except the first one (D03_Stereo_BBD_Delay_02.spcdj) is using two Chorus blocks to conduct the 'gentle L/R pitch...

@BrainGutz - I'm already up to patch number 6 (Stereo Alternating Reverse Delay) for auditing/consideration. Let me know when you're ready to move on from D02 Stereo Multi-Head Delay 02. Also, will you be conducting the "Save as Patch as ASM" actions for burning to EEPROM? A couple of the...

Fair enough. We'll go forward with that candidate. What about it do you think may need further tweaking? (Other than omitting the two, bottom-most 2:1 Mixer blocks to remove the Dry Signal from the patch? And the top 2:1 Mixer block needs to have the right output of the "IN" block connected to...

@BrainGutz - Here's the second D02 Stereo Multi-Head Delay (3-heads) I came up with. Ths one allows for greater delay time - ~900ms, but does NOT allow control of the number of heads as it will always be at 3. And because of the limited number of internal control pots, I'm unable to sort how to...

Great! Here's the D02 Stereo Multi-Head Delay . . . . Your request: "Stereo Multi-Head Tape Echo: Two staggered tape delay taps (3/4 timing ratio) featuring dual out-of-phase LFO modulation for tape warble and high/low-cut filtering." This is a 4-Head stereo delay with a max delay of 500ms...
