If you boil the pots in a little salted water and get the legs al dente first, they’re much easier to maneuver! ;)

I do it all the time. Just chop the legs off a little bit back from where they 90. And use the little holes that are already there. * some pots the holes are a little tight to easily slide a wire in. In that case I use one ‘leg’ of a set of pointy tweezers to gently widen them.

Yeah, this just solves a “max vs. optimal range” issue, it won’t do anything for a general lack of accuracy.

Assuming a regular multimeter is less accurate as you approach the extremes of its range, maybe checking your small caps in parallel with a bigger one (and then doing the requisite subtracting) would give a more reliable result? 🤷‍♀️

Could you also put another pot (either internal trim, or regular style mounted on the side if you want to re-tweak) in series with the treadle pot to fine tune the range? Some expression pedals have this.

Yeah Chip Quik is magical! I’ve bought generic knock-off brands (Indium/Bismuth solder is what you’re looking for) off of EBay for a little less than genuine Chip Quik, and they worked fine. Especially useful if you need to get a many-legged IC off a board without killing it.

If you don’t have one already, a de-burring tool like this one ^ can be very handy for making little adjustments to slightly misaligned holes. Works great on soft metals like aluminum, and I find it quicker and neater than using a file most of the time.

Looks good! You could put everything on the sides. They make 3PDT toggles, if you want to do the normal wiring. You’ll just have to bend down to switch it 😬 But considering most of us on this forum probably aren’t gym rats, a little stretch and flex probably wouldn’t kill us ;)

If he wants no controls, why not figure out what setting he wants to leave it on and put fixed resistors?
