    First 1590B - Spirit Box

Nice build. My 1590B Spirit Box is one of my favourite pedals. You can also install this PCB orientated 90 degrees and then run leads to the pots - but your method is probably easier. It's a shame a lot of the boards are only 1mm away from fitting into 1590B boxes.

    Albert Hoffman's Hearing Aid

The angry boomer Facebook slogans were on point. I love minimal controls (if any) with internal trimpots, nice build!

Building an Arachnid FV-1 board into a Boss enclosure (project)

Test fitting looks good so far. Should be enough clearance for the main PCB when I get it. The offboard bypass board will be interesting. A 16mm pot will fit nicely on the side in place of the EXP jack - although I will need to trim the legs back to rotate them into the recess and make sure...

Building an Arachnid FV-1 board into a Boss enclosure (project)

Hi, I am planning a project involving trying to fit the Arachnid FV-1 PCB into a Boss enclosure. Not sure whether anyone has tried this yet and I couldn't find anything similar in the search. Basically, I had a spare PH-3 enclosure laying around and haven't built an FV-1 pedal yet - I...

More 1590B builds - Greengage, Spirit Box and Roboto!

Couple of build comparisons of my favourite ever reverb circuit:

    Kliche - diode removal?

Thanks very much everyone. It's one circuit I haven't had a lot of experience in. Appreciate the advice.

    Kliche - diode removal?

Hi, I finished building the Kliche Mini today and it's a great circuit. Something odd happened though. I boxed the circuit and set it up for final testing, having made sockets for the germanium diodes (but I FORGOT to actually add them). It not only worked, but actually sounded fine, even...

More 1590B builds - Greengage, Spirit Box and Roboto!

I had a couple in my IC collection for a few years. I can't find where I sourced them from, but I think it was actually an eBay seller who checked out. Be aware of fakes from China.

More 1590B builds - Greengage, Spirit Box and Roboto!

And a 1590B Roboto as well - this one finished in metallic flake clearcoat. Extremely fun pedal with some epic 8-bit sounds. The Arp mode is great. This is another tight build so be ready to use compact jacks and footswitch if attempting it.

More 1590B builds - Greengage, Spirit Box and Roboto!

Hi, several more downsized builds - this time the Greengage, Spirit Box and Roboto: The Spirit Box PCB is about 1mm too wide for the 1590B enclosure, so it had to be mounted sideways with 9mm pots (and flying leads). Bit of a headache to build in this size box but it turned out well...

SWITCH-CRAFT (got any creative uses of switches?)

I love this. You are a visionary. Thanks for the great ideas!

    Informant Mini (1590B build)

Hey mate, that is amazing. Did you make the PCB?

    Informant Mini (1590B build)

I managed to get this PCB into a 1590B with top jacks. Fantastic sound. Tayda drill template I made is here if useful to anyone: Informant 1590B drill template Note, if you try this you will need to use the same (or similar) hardware as the tolerances are slim. I used a compact 3PDT...

    Pedal storage

Yes, it's just a sliding metal drawer for 19" rackmount. I bought it from a local Australian supplier - there are a few options online though so you should be able to get hold of one fairly easily.

    Pedal storage

You could always store them in an actual rack unit (whilst still wired into a remote switchbox!).. I'm trying to hold myself back from building another 3 or 4 of these units for myself and stacking them..

Parentheses Mini - (beware of LM308 type used)

From my perspective, this was a purely diagnostic approach to working out what the issue was. Once identified, I felt responsible to share this with others who may benefit or provide insight (hence 'In case this helps anyone else..' in reporting back afterwards - post no. 5). I don't feel...

Parentheses Mini - (beware of LM308 type used)

They may be genuine of some sort, I can't confirm either way, but they definitely return very different resistance readings when compared to the LM308N (and clearly don't work as an LM308N in this particular circuit). I have posted the readings below (several of the LM308ND vs an LM308N on the...

Parentheses Mini - (beware of LM308 type used)

I mean, I kind of accepted it may be some odd variant/equivalent of the LM308N without a documented history, but didn't expect to receive a batch of chips at that price that literally do not work in an audio circuit: First half of the clip is the smallbear IC, second half was recorded about a...

Parentheses Mini - (beware of LM308 type used)

In case this helps anyone else, the 'cutting out' on max gain problem was due to the LM308 I used. It happens with any of the 'Motorola LM308ND K8505A' chips in the recent batch from Smallbear (pictured left side). When I used another type of LM308 (National Semi - pictured on the right) it...
