Harmonic Percolator - Suggestions On Choosing A Version?

Undefeated trick for way heavy fuzz with an HP is a buffer or *very* slight boost in front. Albini tone chasers steer clear.

    Low Gain Silicon Transistors

I'd say I'm always surprised at the Hfe ranges that sound good to my ears when I'm socketing transistors, even in circuits that are more dependent on variations. Honestly, it's such a fun thing about pedal building to me.

    Low Gain Silicon Transistors

    Here's some more part numbers that are binned by Hfe, ranges pulled from datasheets. last letter here is the bin - 2SC1815-O 70-140 - S9013-D 64-91 - S8050-B 64-91 - 2SA1020-O 70-140 - 2SC1384-Q 85-170 - KTC3202-O 70-140 - A44-A 80-100 - A42-A 80-100 - 2SC945R 80-100

    Low Gain Silicon Transistors

I checked and it is the yellow КТ315И (sometimes has the suffix “D” in latin). Mine measure from 50-80. The J suffix (orange) measure around 140. Also in my bins are KSP06TAs from Tayda that measure around 95. Most others I have on hand have been mentioned I’ve had the best luck with them by...

    Low Gain Silicon Transistors

I forget which suffix is the lowest gain of the Soviet KT315 (I believe КТ315И, but I'll double check when I'm home) but it's an awesome and cheap low hfe transistor. Weird pins but easy enough to finagle. I have a big ol' section of my drawer bins for low Hfe SI and I'll check to see if any I...

    Bring out yer Diptrace

You can define label positioning in a footprint in diptrace FWIW. Add text, right click it and select from the “show” menu. You’ll need to briefly populate refdes and value as you do it. This is how DT suggested doing bottom layer refdes labels and while that doesn’t work, it does let you nail...

    Modify Simulcast to NPN

Before trying to adapt the Narrowcast circuit to the Simulcast PCB I would just try socketing Q2 and try using a low HFE silicon PNP transistor - such as 2N2904, 2N2905A, 2N3703, etc, and using trimpots for R7 & R8 in case OC71 leakage (unsure if this is the case, but rather safe than sorry) has...

    KiCad v8 released

I fooled around with it long enough to be confident that diptrace is still 100% better for me. Same headaches as other kicad versions, doesn’t do anything faster or better than diptrace. Spice simulation is useless if I can draw the circuit in LTSpice in 1/10th of the time

    KiCad v8 released

I’ve thought about writing a plugin for it too. Its all python right?

    KiCad v8 released

There’s some really cool features in this release that I’ve been wanting in diptrace. Gonna install kicad 8 on my mac and take it for another whirl, thanks for the heads up! Have they made it easier to place components in a schematic yet? A sidebar like diptrace would be sooo nice

Where to get 2 conductor cable for making DC cables? (EU)

Lmao me too exactly. Looking through my purchases I’m not sure if I’ve bought 24awg. - up to 22awg silicone outer, some of my favorite: https://a.aliexpress.com/_mtjYZdk - up to 25awg, I’ve only bought larger. Dust magnet silicone https://a.aliexpress.com/_mNdP2z0 - lot of varieties, pvc outer...

Where to get 2 conductor cable for making DC cables? (EU)

Are you looking for zipcord or something with an over jacket? I’ve had great luck on AliExpress for small quantities of wires like this and can link to some

    Alex's Octave-Up Rabbit Hole

Yup exactly! Doing this Lug 1 and Lug 2 will be connected together as well which might be an easier way to think about it as you wire it up to the board. No bad questions either, we're all learners here :)

    Identifying PCP Manufacturer

    Bring out yer Diptrace

I've never used them but on paper they seem pretty cool. One thing I'm worried about, and probably should have thought more about, is that they might turn off on the negative swing of the signal in some places here. But half the appeal of depletion mode mosfets is that you don't need to bias...

Why doesn’t everyone use 9mm pots?!?

I saw some 12mm pots in person for the first time on a cctv monitor my brother is refurbishing and I’ll be danged if they didn’t look like an ideal middle ground on a lot of these fronts

Thoughts on the KSGER T12 Soldering Station?

Happy to share! You won't regret having a 245 iron. The 785 and 790 tips are the best I've used for through hole soldering by miles (I've purchased clones from both links and can vouch for those listings). They're almost as mind blowing as using a paddle style tip for removing pots per @Robert's...

Thoughts on the KSGER T12 Soldering Station?

I have two different TS100 style pen irons that take T245 tips. A Sequre S99, (~$30 w/o power supply) and an L245 (same price range). Both are great and the Sequre has been my daily driver since it showed up. The L245 is more solid (it has a metal body vs sequre's plastic) but it's a little...

Thoughts on the KSGER T12 Soldering Station?

IMO check out the 245 tip stations, especially if you don’t already have a handful of T12 tips. T12 tips are great, and I have plenty of T12 irons, but I haven’t touched them since I got a 245 iron. Smaller, heats faster, more output power, and every conceivable tip shape under the sun.
