Hey, welcome to the forum!
It may be worthwhile to swap out the single electrolytic for a new high quality one if you have one on hand. That just to ensure it has decades more life ahead of it.
I'm kinda against modding nice vintage pedals taking the stance that if you want a modified Russian BMP, build one. For the value lost on the pedal by modding, you could build a few. It's stupid what these go for now vs the $20 on ebay 20 years ago, and it will continue getting more stupid if I had to guess. People paying ~$3-400 for a BMP they haven't played through or heard at all when the tonality can sound vastly different from one to the next. But still, it's worth keeping intact and building your own custom muff.
That my .02 anyway. Do what thou whilst though.

I'm not real precious when it comes to modding or fixing vintage gear, but in this case I would just build a new muff off a fresh pcb with whatever mods you want to experiment with. You can put a muffin pcb on one side of a 1590bb enclosure then run wires over to extra pots and switches on the other half for any mods you want to experiment with. The mids pot is probably the most popular mod for the muff. I like removing the first pair of clipping diodes for a Supa Tonebender type mod too.
