Super stoked today. The rest of the parts arrived for my fourth build of one of Rob Robinette’s tweaked amps (pedalized). His Vibrolux (x2) and JCM800 turned out way better than I expected and since I’ve been on a Tweed rabbit hole lately I thought I’d give his 5E3 a go.
Basically just lifting the preamp section of these amp builds and dropping them in a pedal using amp components. Similar to what Kingsley is doing but just using Rob’s schematics and tweaks.
If this one works out as good as the last three I’ve done I’ll be super stoked. I ran out of PPCB Hv power boards so I Amazon’d one it’s just a nixie supply turning 9v dc into 270v dc.
These are my favorite builds. Not as $$$ as doing an amp but still getting a lot of the character of an amp.
The first two I built I went in blind and it was a mess. This time I drew out the plan of attack. I have a toggle switch which will let me turn on/off the normal channel. The foot switch bypasses the pedal. It will be on the lead channel as default and when toggled in will combine lead and normal like jumpering the inputs on the real thing.
