Anyone have any new neck opinions?

I have a 71 strat that I've totally butchered over the years with synth jacks and 13 pin installations etc. I'm considering the body to be worthless in terms of a 71 and the neck has been refretted so many times it needs to be replaced. Anything out there that's outstanding? It's a big peghead maple board and I'm convinced that being a big head makes a difference, regardless of the fact that the entire time I played it in the 80's I wished for a small peghead neck. I want to maintain a maple board.

Oh I dunno - have you seen that Gilmour Strat (the black one) which was routed out for various things including a Kahler then filled in again? What did it sell for?? A decent luthier should be able to resurrect it - or at least get an opinion from.

I don’t want to reinvent the wheel as the original neck did me quite well. I just need direction to replace the old beast. But the prices seem to vary from $200 to $500.

I never tried it but I have friends who used Warmoth in the past and the result was great. I was considering a Warmoth baritone conversion neck for a Strat build but I have to say a build from scratch is very expensive.

Dooo it! 28.625" is the perfect scale length. Longer than a typical 7-string but shorter than a typical twanger baritone. AND, slap a capo at the 2nd fret and you've got a fat gauge fender

I am torn on this. The price of a custom Warmoth build is around $1000 without finish. I really want a baritone guitar but I can get a new one at that price. Or I can buy a loaded Fender body and just the conversion neck which would be around $7-800. But then where’s the fun?

I have a strat with a channel bound neck that is outstanding. Super comfortable to play and beautiful to boot. They sell them as separate but are pricey.

I did a baritone strat conversion a while back. Ebony board, tilt back headstock, no fretboard inlays. I used an SX body and it fit great. I wired it up with two outputs - the neck and bridge pickup went to one, and the middle pickup, which was a hot rails, went to the other. I ran it thru both my guitar and bass amp at the time.

I tuned it to drop A, but it was a bitch transposing on the fly. I was playing bass in a 3 piece at the time and was hoping it would flesh out the sound, but instead I came to appreciate the simplicity of a 4 string bass. I was glad when someone finally bought it.

For a fender I would assume Warmoth is the obvious choice. Keep in mind that unless they have changed that, they do not do a fret level before delivery so a pro level afterwards might be necessary (200-250€?).

Yeah that’s the other thing that makes me hesitate. I guess DIY is not just about saving money, but the fret leveling job is daunting to me, if I consider doing it myself. Or just expensive if I am gonna pay somebody to do it.
